Thursday's Sketchbook - This is what yesterday's character is supposed to look like.

Watched War of the Worlds last night ... Most of it went like this:

ME: But dude, what about _____?
SPIELBERG: Hey, man, I have totally got that covered.

I would have liked to know more about the blood root things, which as far as I could tell were creepy but pointless. And ... were the tripod thingies alive, or machines? 'Cause if they were machines, how would they be affected by pathogens? Also: crows rule.

Yup.

Alien were alive inside the tripod thingies. What happened was the aliens died, and the machines fell over and...rusted, or something.

yay rapid oxidation?

But why would their shields go down? 'Ooh, I'm feeling a little woozy, I'm going to shut down the shields'? Surely the mechanics would still be working no matter how sick the operators were. And also, the machines seemed to be full of some sort of fluid – when Ray hacks at that one snakey arm video thing, it ... splashes. The alien at the end comes out in a big diarrhea flow of the same sort of fluid. Maybe it's some sort of freaky alien biomechanical device...

Maybe the mechanic aliens didn't have a union. :P

Heh, sorry, I should have said 'mechanisms.'

Hm. Possible. Movie aliens do seem to be fond of the bio-mechanical suits and stuff...

Or, maybe it's like a car, where the headlights (shields) will work if the car is turned off, but once the battery dies, you're SOL. Perhaps the 'pods have really (really) bad batteries? (They shoulda gone with energizer, obviously)
