As a person from Mexico I'm not all that keen on watching the film because they tend to satanize Mesoamerican tribes and portray them as wild, blood-thirsty creatures. Furthermore, when I went to Cancún and visited the Mayan ruins, the guide told us that the Mayans were the people who least practiced human sacrifices, and they definitely didn't throw bodies down pyramids, nor did they cut off heads.
I'm a bit rusty on my history, but I'm almost sure the movie has shredded the facts to make the movie more gory and catching.
