Your Friendly Radio Reminder

Hey everybody! Only You Can Save Mankind is going to be on BBC7 this Saturday! Everybody listen! It's fabulous!* If you're a Potterhead who's been wondering what this Pratchett thing is all about, this is the show for you! It's on at 6pm/midnight BST, which means 1pm/7pm EDT, noon/6pm CDT, 11am/5pm MDT, and 10am/4pm PDT – if you're not in one of those time zones, well... look it up. Or if you're confused no matter where you live, just use the 'Listen Again' option after it's aired. LISTEN, EVERYBODY!! If you don't, then read the book! HarperCollins (where the cool is at) just released a US edition last summer so it should be relatively easy to find.

BBC QUOTE OF THE DAY:
[Condoleeza Rice] went to the Middle East and suggested that peace would result from letting the fighting carry on. This was apparently the birth pangs of a new Middle East which, it turns out, looks very much like the old Middle East, except on fire.

The Now Show

*Well, all right, I haven't heard the radio play yet so I don't know if it is fabulous, but the original book is, so they'd have to really mess it up to make it awful.

Ooh, I've been wanting to read that! Hopefully it'll be up for a full week, yes? I'm at a conference until Thursday, and I doubt I'll get the chance to listen before then. Maybe some lovely person will record it? *gives puppy-dog eyes to your flist*

Surprise, surprise, I agree with Ms. Rice. What has been the policy since at least 1948 and actually since 1919 has been battle, ceasefire, battle, ceasefire, repeat forever. Nothing is going to get better in the long run until those whose stated aim is to kill all the Jews and wipe Israel off the map are once and for all dealt with. How do you negotiate with people like that? Yes, Israel is killing some civilians, but they are not targeting civilians as Hezbollah is. And how can you tell is a dead adult male (or female for that matter) is a civilian or a militant? You can't in the case of Hezbollah, because they don't wear uniforms like the Israeli Army, nor does the Israeli Army use residential neighborhoods as launching pads for rockets or hospitals and religious sites to store weapons.

If the UN had actually done something towards their own resolution 1559 that reads in part "the disbanding and disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias" the area would not be in its current state of crisis.

I wish I had BBC, all I have is BBC America, which is okay but we only get select shows, but one of my favourite shows of all time is one there, My Family. Do you watch it?

I really like Only You Can Save Mankind, but for some reason since there isn't any stimulating visualization on a radio play so I get a little bored and wander away. For shame.

The pictures are better on radio.
