Obsessive Personality?

Congratulations to the Silly Sisters! 'Agincourt Carol/Route Aux Beziers' and 'Blood and Gold'* are the first songs to crest 100 Times Played on my iTunes.

To celebrate, and because 'Blood and Gold' always makes me want to read/draw from Monstrous Regiment, here's a sort of colour study for Kneck Keep which I did a few months ago but I don't think I ever posted it.

*I hacked the 'Mohacs' part off the MP3 ... it detracted from the ambience.

That's gorgeous! (gorge-eous?) I really like the river, it looks very realistic.

Oh wow. It wasn't until I looked real close at the trees at the bottom and the crest of the cliff that I realized it wasn't a photograph. Very awesome.

Kneck Keep looks awesome. do you have it in a wallpaper size? :)

Nope, I did this deliberately small to concentrate on not concentrating on details. I hope someday to paint it, maybe with real paint... we'll see.

Wow! When I scrolled down my-flist my initial thought was "She posted a highland photo". :)It's lovely!

Wow, really? Cool! I did use some photo reference (not from Scotland, though) for picking colours but I never thought it could pass for a photo... I mean, there's hardly any detail, and the 'paint' strokes are so broad and flat.

Absolutely gorgeous, especially love the gentle colours. Looks vaguely Scottish.

Yeeeeee, it's beautiful! But oh-so small!

fantastic tealin! I love it.

as for broad paint strokes, they let the eye fill in the rest of the detail. The light on the water and the way you faded out the distant mountains add a lot of that photorealism that I saw when I first looked at it.

I'm not sure what song I've played the most on my iPod. It might be 'Starlight Express', although as due to a glitch it's less than a second long I only used it to make the pause symbol go away.

I like the Kneck Keep picture. Did you use the photo of Edinburgh Castle i gave you?

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually got your picture after I 'painted' this, but it will come in VERY useful when I develop it more. Thank you!

You're welcome.

The Festival ends tomorrow. There will be fireworks at the Castle. Why they moved the fireworks from Saturday to Sunday remains a mystery.

I need to stop typing 'firwokrs'.

OOoo! Pretty! Backgrounds. They haunt my 2-d nightmares...

ahh! I have been looking everywhere for the artist who sings "Blood and Gold" forever now! Some group sang it a capella at a choir concert I went to, and the CD doesn't say who it's by.

THANK YOU!!!

-Em:)

PS - wicked good picture! I thought it was real for a bit until I looked real close at it.

Glad I could be of service! I actually found the Silly Sisters by accident as well – Radio 4 put a bit of Agincourt Carol before the reading of a book on Henry V and I recorded it, then by an odd string of associations and events I ended up playing it for a friend who dismissed it as 'Oh, that's just the Silly Sisters version' and jackpot! Cool choir, for singing Blood and Gold. It sounds really fun to sing. You can get it on iTunes! Hooray for iTunes and its obscure library!

Wow... that looks so great! Monstrous Regiment is one of my favorite Discworld books and this was just how I imagined Kneck Keep. That, and a bunch of little onlooker's tents scattered around to watch the fighting :) The river especially looks so realistic. Seeing your art makes me happy. :D
