The Truth Shall Make Ye Fret

...'What were you doing it for?'
'Me? Because – ' William stopped. The truth was that he'd never decided to to anything. He'd never really made that kind of decision in his whole life. One thing had just gently led to another, and then the press had to be fed. It was waiting there now. You worked hard, you fed it, and it was still just as hungry an hour later and out in the world all your work was heading for Bin Six in Piss Harry's and that was only the start of its troubles. Suddenly he had a proper job, with working hours, and yet everything he did was only as real as a sandcastle, on a beach where the tide only ever came in.
'I don't know,' he admitted. 'I suppose it's because I'm no good at anything else. Now I can't imagine doing anything else.'

The Truth pgs 181-182

It's supposed to be about the newspaper ... but it's totally animation.

I think it could be applied to art in general, but yeah, animation totally tops the hardest art form out there, bar none. Paintings you can get done in a couple of hours, drawings same time. CG takes longer, but Animation? it's a slave driver. Many times have I wanted to drive a knife through my computer trying to work with flash or through the clay trying to get the stop motion right. I decided to cook instead, and thoroughly mince the vegtables. 'tis very stress releaving.

Man, can I relate to thismy life has followed that easy, flowing path of least resistance as long as I can remember, leadind me here...I've said almost the exact same thing to myself and others - my job is the most difficult, soul-squeezing, demanding job I can imagine...but I'm no goodfor anything else! Luckily, on the best of days, it's a LOT more satisfying, gratifying, engaging, and fun than anything else I know (and every once in a great while, it comes easy!) Man, what would I do if I couldn't do this???
