More Truthy Goodness

More drawings will be appearing this weekend, with any luck, but for now, further proof:
There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty.

The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: 'What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!'

And at the other end of the bar the world is full of the other type of person, who has a broken glass, or a glass that has been carelessly knocked over (usually by one of the people calling for a larger glass), or who had no glass at all, because they were at the back of the crowd and had failed to catch the barman's eye.

I love that metaphor.

*seconds* I think it's also a wonderful peek into PTerry's view of the world. When I read things like this it's so easy to see why he writes Sam Vimes and Esmerelda Weatherwax with such a passion :)

A man's speech should exceed his grasp, else what's a metaphor?

And there are also those who just drink the water.

That's one of my very favorite Terry Pratchett quotes EVER.

:D

Love Full Metal ! ;)

But...what about the people who aren't allowed into a bar? (Or what about the people in SLC who complain they can never find a bar that will "sponsor" them?):) just kidding, this is really great stuff - much to chew on!

Um...

I hope you don't mind that this is off topic, but I liked your picture on artpad.com, so I colored it, but the link didn't work . I actually did WAAAY better coloring on that thing than I thought I would. But it took forever! So I decided to complain. I'm leaving now, don't worry.

My drawing was on what site now? I went to that one and it appears to be the personal gallery of some abstracty dude.

I really want to read one of the Discworld book, since I saw everyone talking about them here. Any suggestion for wich one I should read ?

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Um ... gee, I can't count the number of times we've had this conversation on this LJ. Unfortunately I don't know where to find any of them. Click on the 'discworld' tag at the top of this entry and just browse the comments, that's your best bet; I'd do it for you but I have work to do.

[identity profile] fairy-gany.livejournal.com 2006-09-27 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's a nice intention, thanks, I'll do it. :)
(I was anonymous last time, it's a mistake)

[identity profile] fairy-gany.livejournal.com 2006-09-27 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
I did a "Which character are you" test about Discworld, just for fun because I don't know any character. But it was good not to be influenced (I always am when it's a Harry Potter test).
Results : 69% Carrot Ironfounderson and 69% the Librarian.
OK, but are they nice at least ?

[identity profile] ardys-the-ghoul.livejournal.com 2006-09-28 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Carrot is a member of the Ankh-Morpork (large city, often at the center of the Discworld books) Watch (i.e., he's a cop), and the Librarian, who is the librarian of the library at the wizards' university, is an orangutan (well, he's a wizard who was transformed into an orangutan and decided he liked it better than being human).

I'd say Carrot is nice. Good character to be. I don't know if an orangutan can be said to be "nice," but the Librarian's a good character, too. I wouldn't mind being the Librarian. He likes music, bananas, and preventing people from checking out books.

(Sorry, this is not my journal, but I saw your comment and, being a fan of Discworld, decided to respond.)

Could you provide a link to this Discworld test (if Tealin doesn't mind, seeing as this is her journal)?

[identity profile] fairy-gany.livejournal.com 2006-09-28 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for your answer !
Now I remember there was a question about bananas, but I LOATHE bananas, so I must have other "librarian answers".
So sorry, but I can't find the link ! I did an other test though, but it's not very good I think... But it's the only one I re-found ("re-found", is it correct ?!) :
quizilla.com/users/anaemus/quizzes/What%20Discworld%20Character%20are%20you%3F%20(FINSIHED!!!)/
According to this test I'm Rincewind (...?).

[identity profile] fairy-gany.livejournal.com 2006-09-28 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
If you want you can leave comments on my LJ, not to bother Tealin... Even if it's all in french...

[identity profile] ardys-the-ghoul.livejournal.com 2006-09-28 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks anyway.

Rincewind is the most inept wizard in Discworld. I think you were better off as Carrot or the Librarian. :)

[identity profile] fairy-gany.livejournal.com 2006-09-28 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No problem.
I said it wasn't a really good test this one... ;)

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-09-28 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You're perfectly welcome to post anything and ask anything you like!

As for this quiz, I think I did it a while back ... try checking things under the 'discworld' tag. I'm pretty sure I scored as the Librarian, too. I've yet to find a really comprehensive and/or objective Discworld character test online ... is this because there are simply too many characters? Or because the crowd who usually develops these online tests is not the primary Discworld audience, being much more likely to write quizzes along the lines of 'Which Harry Potter/PotC "Ship" are you?'

[identity profile] fairy-gany.livejournal.com 2006-09-28 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You're too good Tealin !

As for the stupid tests, I agree. I'm either Dumbledore or Cho ! Or I like the pairing Harry/Draco !
Hahahahahahaaaaaaa !
I don't think so.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-09-28 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
omg snape/norrington otp!!!!!!!!!!! :DDDD <3

[gag]

[identity profile] fairy-gany.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
What are "omg" and "otp" for ?
(Even if I do understand the main sense)
Lol anyway.

[identity profile] bozistheboss.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
Hi, Tealin!

I'm a big fan of Potter and Discworld and, incidentally, your artwork. Checking your site, I saw you had a LJ, so I decided I'd add you.

I was shocked to see this quote as the first thing on your page. I had the same quote in my AIM profile for months.

[identity profile] good4u06.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
FROM ONE DISCWORLD FAN TO ANOTHER (although I haven't read nearly enough of them)
I saw a poster today for what looked suspiciously like the next in the Wee Free Men series... hmmmmm... but unfortunately I can't remember what it was called. Anyway, I may be very mistaken.
Also, <3 your artwork, it was your Harry Potter art that found me this site.

Wintersmith? Yes, it's the new Tiffany book ... It was released in the UK on Thursday and in the States ... uh ... soon? If not already. I have to wait till Oct 24, blah.

Thanks!
