Considering that I'm only 19 and it's been around for ten years, which means it's been around the majority of my life, I am unsure how to adjust to this.

I vividly recall staying up all night on the eve of my 11th birthday... waiting for an owl, or possibly even Hagrid. And anyway, my birthday was so close to Harry Potter's, I reasoned that this must elevate my chances. Needless to say, it ended up being a very disappointing birthday.
And another time, I brought the third book with us shopping a day or so after it came out and was reading it in the store, and some random guy saw me and his face lit up. He must have been at least forty. Anyway, he said, "Hey! I love those books! What one is it? Ooo, the new one! You'll like it! It's my favourite! It's great!" And then he swaggered away, a grin plastering his face and making him look like a retarded duck. But a happily retarded duck.
Bizarre how some books can actually convince you that they're real and become part of your daily life, isn't it?
whoa, you've got MY birthday! I'll be turning 21--for the first four books I was the same age as the characters. True, life looks pretty bleak to a young adult who has to pretend to be mature now. :(
I was 14 when the first book came out, but I didn't get into the series until the fourth book, when I was 17. I started with that one and then sought out the rest.
