Phone Trouble

My phone is pathetically slow, has an annoying ringtone, and loses its charge in about three hours, seemingly at random, but I have stuck with it because it's a flip phone (which is neato) and came free with the service I inherited from my sister. It's started pulling something on me, though, which I cannot let pass, of just BEEPING for NO APPARENT REASON. I've checked the voicemail, the text messages, it's charged, it's got enough money for the next month which isn't coming due for a while anyway, I've unset and reset the alarm, then turned the whole thing off and back on again, but nothing is good enough – WHAT DO I DO??

Or better yet, I should get a new phone and drop-kick this one into an environmentally sound receptacle. Any suggestions? My only requirements are that the buttons respond within half a second of pressing them (preferably instantly, but let's not get overambitious) and that I can load my own ringtone (or is that a service provider thing?). It would also be nice if it gave me the option of sending a text message to an email rather than a phone number. Help!

EDIT: Thanks to Rupertistheone I devised a cunning plan of pretending to swap the battery (merely taking the battery out for thirty seconds or so then putting it back in) which seems to have done the trick. Dumb phone, hahaha. Thanks for all the advice!

...Heeee, Sweeney.

Uh.. Maybe it's the "Just let me die in peeeace!" beep?

I've had my Nokia 5200 for a year now, and it's been very nice to me... The main reason I like it is that it's got a proper mp3 player built in, 2GB drive for music, can have headphones... And obviously can set any mp3 as ringtone. Very user-friendly and nice too, and durable. At the moment, when mine rings,it goes "Iiii am Adolpho Pirelli, the king of the barbers, the barber of kings..." etc.

I vote for the drop-kicking, myself.

This may be a bit ambitious for you, but I have a Sync which I dearly, dearly love. I've had said sync for just over a year now and I adore it (:

Also, what provider do you have?

...

ooooh.

I'm carried by icky Virgin Mobile whose entire marketing culture I despise and makes me cringe whenever I get an automated message from them ... I'd like to switch providers when I get a new phone but I'd like to save that extra pile of paperwork until after I've finally settled in here. How is AT&T?

Get a new phone, or keep the one you have constantly charged on your desk. (you do have a few electric plugs in the office yes?)

It's not that it can't hold a charge, it just stays full for several days and then suddenly loses it in the space of a few hours.

Okay, so I'm assuming that the phone in the doodle is a RAZR, 'cause it's Sweeney. And that would be hilarious.

*sends good phone vibes*

Sir: that pun is brilliant!

[identity profile] heidi-wiggin.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhhh puns... What would we do without them?

[identity profile] noodledaddy.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
A day without puns is like a day without sunshine. There's always gloom for improvement.

Oh dear, I almost wish it were, now...

No, it's some no-name cheapo phone. :P Tis black, though.

[identity profile] heidi-wiggin.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It looks like a RAZR in your sketch though, so I'm gonna pretend it is!

Yay for living in fantasy worlds...

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm all for personal realities. And I've heard RAZRs are of less than satisfactory manufacturing quality (albeit from a guy on the bus) so perhaps the fantasy and reality can jive a little.

I didn't know Mr. Todd was German.

I absolutely loved the drawing, I really did laugh audibly when I opened up my LJ friends page and Sweeney was right there having a meltdown. Ha ha awesome. About the phone, it might be asking you to replece the battery all together, generally a random beeping for no reason means the battery is dying. That's what my car keys did...and that stupid smoke alarm in my room in the middle of the night before I had to go to an early morning class (no I'm not bitter at all...)

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
The battery seems to be working fine, but your comment inspired me to be CUNNING: I took the battery out for a few minutes then put it back in and that seems to have solved the problem. I hope to buy a new phone before I spring for a battery for this one.

Smarter than your average phone.

[identity profile] meganphntmgrl.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
You mean to say...

YOU HAD A CUNNING PLAN?

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I 'AD .... A CUNNING PLAN!

[identity profile] beckychan.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
:blinks: Is it just me, or is that Sweeny Todd yelling at the phone? ^_^O

Anyhoo, I'd say go for a new one. It sounds like your old one just got all faulty. Is it the same number as before? Just wanna make sure I don't need to update my contacts list.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, my phone rage expresses itself through other characters. :)

Number's still the same, and I think I've outwitted it for the time being, but I want to make sure it knows it will soon be obsolete.

I definitely had a similar problem with one of my old phones. Every time it either lost service or got better service it made a weird beep/ding noise. It took me ages to figure out how to fix it. I'd check the manual and see if it has a similar thing going on.

Have a lovely day!

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
It was a fairly regular beep (every ten minutes or so, not frequent enough to get used to but constant enough to be irritating), but pretending to swap the battery has hushed it up for now. We'll see how long that lasts.
