Randy Newman Musical

If you're upset or worried about the soundtrack to The Princess and the Frog being done by Randy Newman and not, say, Alan Menken, please check out Cats Don't Dance.

Hey, look at that, some obliging soul has put it on YouTube. Just as well because the DVD, while obviously better, is really hard to find.

Do yourself a favour and try to get past the title sequence; while it's cleverly storyboarded it isn't representative, musically, of the rest of the movie. Subsquent parts are linked after this clip ... unfortunately the cuts are a little awkward but it's better than nothing.

Hey I'm actually wondering what you think so far of The Princess and the Frog, cause I've been hearing a lot of obnoxious comments about it, which are kinda annoying.
I am super excited for it, and I really like Cats Don't Dance (Unfortunately I have the full screen version, and couldn't find the widescreen) D:

Um ... I'm not really allowed to comment (just spread the word, haha) ... There'll be haters no matter what they do, so I'd suggest not listening to any judgments of it until someone's actually seen it.

Cats Don't Dance has been airing on cartoon network this past week. They run it every couple months or so.

I caught my ten-year-old brother watching it the other morning. He tries to be a macho kid, but I know he has the love for animated musicals. :D

I LOVE that movie. I think it's brilliant.
Everytime it's on Cartoon Network I make my brother watch it with me :D

Oooh, I'd forgotten about this movie, I saw it ages ago!! I didn't notice Randy Newman did the music for this one!

I figured you can't talk about Princess and the Frog, so I only have one question. Do you think the people who oppose this movie because of the theme and the setting and such are gonna have to eat their words with a lot of ketchup?

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly have no idea. I know everyone on this end is being extremely careful, but the whole race politics/baggage issue is so foreign to me that if I even dared to say anything either way I suspect I would have to eat my words with a lot of ketchup. I had actually been considering making a post about it but still haven't come up with a way to approach it ...

I can say that Ray is supposed to be Cajun, not black, a confusion which seems to have been the principle source of offense to the teaser. Cos, y'know, you can make fun of Cajuns all you want... :) (<---- has Acadian/Cajun ancestry)

CATS DON'T DANCE! :D I re-watched the whole movie on YouTube a few months ago, after failing to find a DVD copy and needing a fix. Such a forgotten flick... with Scott Bacula! Hee, I love him.

Cats DO Dance forever

I just love how it's been on YouTube for the longest time! I was so excited when I found it months ago and I'm still excited that it's still up. It's so cartoony. :3 I remember it from when I was little. ^^

As long as its not by Phil Collins, I'll live.

ACTUALLY, it seems like the full-screen DVD is not hard to find (Amazon: $8.99). Was it ever released on DVD in widescreen (the one on Youtube looks like the image has been stretched a little)? I still have my VHS, and I usually wait to replace them until I can find the best replacement possible. 'Swan Princess' and 'The Thief and the Cobbler' I'm still waiting on for that reason too. Why don't they want to release these things? People would be all over it!

I don't know if it was ever released in widescreen – the copy I have is Fullscreen too, if memory serves. Still, better than nothing.

Oh Amazon, you do make life so easy ... I remember the rush when someone in my animation class found a copy at at Wal-Mart and by the time the rest of us got there they were all gone. The same happened at a couple of other stores. I stumbled on mine in one of those racks of bargain DVDs at a supermarket.
