*BUZZ* Deviation.

Sir Clement Freud, 1924-2009

I know he did more with his life, but I mostly know him from Radio 4's Just a Minute, where he was the manifestation of the word 'lugubrious,' and frequently won with his patented tactics of speaking very slowly, finding any excuse to launch into a long list, and strategically buzzing when his opponent only had a few seconds left. He was only on Just a Minute a couple weeks ago ... and not long before that he and Paul Merton were the only Radio 4 panelists in history to prevent David Mitchell from hijacking their show. Truly the radio will never be the same.

You're right, Tony, he does look exactly as he sounds.

Hey look, slideshow! And, fittingly, a radio tribute. BBC, you know how to honour your own.

Isn't it almost exactly a year since Humph?

I suppose it's a hazard of your relatively outdated medium being dominated by middle-aged-to-elderly men. [clings to remaining beloved voices]

Don't let them take Nicholas Parsons next. ;_; *clings*

Nicholas Parsons seems to be immune to age ... I'm more afraid for Barry Cryer.

That's funny. I thought exactly the same thing in almost exactly the same order. "Oh Parsons must be ancient... I hope we don't lose him too... no... I think NP is eternal. But Barry Cryer... there's only so many times you can laugh like that before your fuel runs out."

P.S. What an amusingly illustrative icon.
