Dr Horrible Rocks Their Socks, Too

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN DOCTOR HORRIBLE'S SING-ALONG BLOG.

Got that? Got it? Okay:

Doctor Horrible on TV Tropes
Just look at this page! This is for a 44-minute web program. What the hell is wrong with us?

What I particularly like, aside from the overall brilliance, is the joy and love apparent from the writers. :D

Fortunately, this website has reminded me I need to type up my What Makes Dr Horrible So Awesome notes on Acts II and III, but unfortunately, its mesmerizing brilliance has kept me engrossed for far too long to start on that tonight. I shake my fist at you, [livejournal.com profile] lunylucy! My fist of gratitude and affection! [shake, shake, shake]

And for just a little bit of Lasseter-baiting, Expospeak! [runs away]

No fists! I told you I take no responsibility! ..oh wait, it's a fist of gratitude and affection. It's alright then :DD

(Seriously though, aside from the fact of it being what it is, I do love the nerdy and non-formal way the TV Tropes pages are written).

..You did not just link me to TVTropes at one in the morning. *backs out fast* XDDDDD

See: icon. :D

I myself have been browsing it for the last ... four ... hours ... okay, I really need to scan my scene now.

Yours is an evil laugh, clearly. *cackles*

Lucky you, I need to redraw what I was working on.... XD

I have now wasted about 2 and a half hours of my life thanks to you and TV Tropes. Not quite your 4 hours, but still. It was all completely new to me, so I just had to follow link after link (like Wikipedia but much, much worse). Metaphorgotten, Deadpan Snarker, Wangst, Unfunny, Woobie, Nightmare Fuel, Narm, and even Petting Zoo People. It's so satisfying to see these things given names, and then to see examples that you know (like that Wesley torture scene in Princess Bride under Nightmare Fuel). Oh, and I almost forgot Uncanny Valley! That one has so many "OMG yes!" examples, and a really great explanation of the phenomenon.

Er... what's with "Laseteer baiting"? Unless this is a super secret...thing?

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's mostly to do with my 'thing' about overexplaining things in Up and, to a wider extent, overcommunication as an element of The Pixar Method. But it's also in response to some last-minute minor changes to Frog which are super secret ... for now.

Thanks for posting this! It's awesome when someone can give a review on something so nerdy, but absolutely friggin' awesome to watch the show itself over, and over, and over again! xD

And over, and over, and over, and over, and over ... :D

Though I find I get a lot more out of it in the summer, for some reason.

You should know that you just made me waste spend 6 hours straight on TV Tropes.

Am also resisting editing the Commentary The Musical page, or the Firefly page, when I really really really need sleep.

I'm still unsure whether this is a good thing or not...

I'm much amused at the fact you've only now discovered Tvtropes. I would have thought you would have been on that site ages ago.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
I would have, only something about the title (dunno what ...) made it sound like it was just about TV, in which I have little to no interest or recent experience.

We have an article on GUNS THAT SHOOT BEES. How many sites can say that?

Anyway, the site was started by a group of Buffy fans, so Joss Whedon is one of our favorites. Terry Pratchett, too.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
YOU GUYS ROCK. Seriously, I could have gotten up to so much trouble this past year or so if I'd known you'd already done all my thinking for me. :D

GUNS THAT SHOOT BEES! Dang, every time I poke around TV Tropes it becomes more vast and deep. I had not even encountered that heading yet! Now I must look it up and spend another few hours completely engrossed!

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wait a minnit ... while this article is very cool and also observant, I thought it was going to be about that thing where people shoot at bees (or similar particle swarm) in a stupid attempt to beat them, as has happened in both Peter Jackson's King Kong and Hellboy 2, to my knowledge. And in both of those they continue to shoot at them even when a rational person would have noticed that this was having no effect. Dunno if this is common enough to be a trope, but there you go.

Sorry, I'm getting distracted ...
