WHO?!

Left: The potrtait, done in charcoal by my ancestor Hans Costenoble in 1886 (thank you [livejournal.com profile] noodledaddy)
Right: William Hartnell, Doctor #1

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Now that that's taken care of ...

DOCTOR! MOIST VON LIPWIG HAS STOLEN THE TARDIS!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!

Okay, so I was planning to watch the next episode on that library DVD tonight, but it turned out I had watched them all last night (how did that happen?) so I went poking around in the special features and there were comedy sketches! I like comedy sketches, what the heck, I'll give it a shot. And they were funny. Hysterically funny, on some counts. BUT THEN ...

I think I managed to watch the whole sketch without blinking. Or possibly breathing.

After a little bit of internet scrounging, on account of there being no credits for the sketches (?!) I discovered this unnerving apparition is none other than MARK GATISS. I KNOW THAT NAME! HE'S FROM FROM RADIO 4! I listened to his show Nebulous! And heard him on other shows!! And he wrote The Unquiet Dead! But I swear – I swear – I have never seen Mark Gatiss before in my entire life! When I drew Moist the first time it was like 'WHOA, he just popped out of my pencil fully formed!' and now I know I was somehow psychically channeling MARK GATISS! I was practically tracing his face! MY HEAD IS A WORMHOLE, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!

Because I am currently freaking out and overreacting, here are a handful more screencaptures:

Wow!

Thank you for making me snigger uncontrollably. :D

That is pretty fantabulous scary.

Now we all know that a Doctor Who/Discworld crossover is needing to be written.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, well, we already knew that. :)

[identity profile] veronikamg.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
You are going to make some neat crossover sketches now, right? Right?

[identity profile] thearchduchess.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, Who/Discworld Fanart Crossover love.

That is quite shocking. I am shocked. And greatly amused.

Mark Gatiss. <3

He was also a writer for The League Of Gentlemen. On of the most depraved and disturbing things to appear on British television. Also, <3. XD

[identity profile] tehladyelbereth.livejournal.com 2006-08-13 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He was League of Gentlemen creepy in Funland too... Love it.

[identity profile] rawrsie.livejournal.com 2006-08-12 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
still so... wierded.. out...

[identity profile] azvolrien.livejournal.com 2006-08-12 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
How extremely uncanny. The resemblence is startling.

Is that drawing like an ancestor photo? In our house we've got a load of photos of long-dead relatives. They're on the wall in the hall. Some of the relatives are still alive or died recently, but most of them are from ages ago. One fellow has the most impressive beard I've ever seen.

[identity profile] azvolrien.livejournal.com 2006-08-12 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The guy with the impressive beard is my great-great-grandfather, apparently.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-08-12 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's a charcoal drawing (pretty amazing, huh?) drawn by an ancestor of mine ... we don't know who it's of. (I assume it's someone who didn't pay for the portrait, ha ha ha. Or perhaps a Timelord who got called off to other things before he could pay! Mwaaah!)

[identity profile] noodledaddy.livejournal.com 2006-08-13 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Believe it or not, the only reference to Hans Costenoble I've been able to find on the web is a reference to a book in which some illustrations are said to be "after Hans Costenoble." The book was published by a relative of Hans', Hermann Costenoble, in Jena, Germany in 1892.

I say "believe it or not" because it is obvious that Has was an artist of no small amount of skill. We have 3 other charcoals by him, each about 12x19, and I know of a fourth that exists.

[identity profile] azvolrien.livejournal.com 2006-08-13 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty incredible for charcoal. The most I can manage with charcoal is sort of Underground grafitti stuff.

Time Lord is two words, fool.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-08-14 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Time Lord is two words, fool.

Bah, I've been fed so many inconsistencies on that, I don't know what to believe anymore!

[identity profile] azvolrien.livejournal.com 2006-08-14 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely two words. I checked the book.

Amazing Userpic Find

[identity profile] tonks244.livejournal.com 2006-08-15 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
See the userpic? It's a t-shirt. I saw it and instantly thought of De Worde, and then of you because you're the initial one who got me going on Terry Pratchett.
Just thought I'd show you. Hope you enjoy!

That whole thing is just creepy. And... wait, what? Mark Gatiss?!

Abs x

Something like this happened to me, too. I drew a picture of a character of my own, about the umpteenth attempt at capturing that character on paper. It wasn't really based on anyone, and it turned out to be exactly the way I pictured that character (I was pretty impressed, actually--my drawings don't normally turn out that well).

Many months later, I saw a picture of Kate Beckinsale taken from the movie Underworld and just about died. She looked just like my character.
