I learned a new technique yesterday for structuring the eye socket/eye/nose bridge area on the face, and have gone a little crazy trying it out everywhere. One of my subjects was someone with a very distinctive nose and deep-set eyes, Frank Debenham:
Dunno quite how well I got him, but it was fun!
Regarding the one with the 'turban' – lots of people sported the rolled-up balaclava, but Deb (as he was known) seems to have achieved far more volume in his than anyone else did.
He was also a sweetheart. His journals contain more entertaining and endearing anecdotes about people and life at the hut than anyone else's, and he was the main driving force behind setting up the Scott Polar Research Institute after their return. He was Australian, and went to teach at Cambridge after the expedition; after being away something like thirty years he took a trip back to Oz, and on the ship he composed poems about koalas and kookaburras. Awwwww, Deb.

Just thought I'd pop in and tell you how much I love your drawing tips. I know the 40 days are over, but if you could occasionally post tidbits of useful information here and there for us amateurs, then I'd be thrilled.

THANK YOU! I'm glad you like my attempts. I've done a few more since that look more like him (and less like Elvis) but haven't scanned them yet.
I do plan on sharing this eye/nose construction thing as soon as I figure out how to explain it in a way that doesn't involve actually sitting next to the person I'm showing it to and going through it live. :) And I will share art tips in the future, too – I thought I'd run out long before the forty days were up, but the more I dug the more I found. No guarantees on when they'll get posted, though.
