There was this ... disease that the clacksmen got.

Somehow this idea came up during a conversation with Romanilily last night... I don't know exactly how (I never do, after this sort of conversation) but it was enough to make me laugh like a madwoman for about ten minutes. (Good exercise, that.) It's How To Dress Up Like a Clacks Tower for Halloween. See, each finger is connected to a little wire that operates one of the shutters so you can wiggle them around and spell out messages and stuff. And, see, the cunning wrap-around strappy overall thing looks cunningly like the scaffoldy part of the tower! It could work, you know, it really could work.

So the scene on Halloween would go like this:
KIDS: [ring the doorbell] Trick or Treat!
YOU: [open the door (somehow) in your clacksy glory]
KIDS: [dumbfounded]
YOU: [grin madly and wiggle your fingers in complicated patterns]
SHUTTER ARRAY: Clack clack clack clack clack clack clack clack clack clack.
SMALL CHILD: [starts to cry]

I'm not going to try it, though, because I have little mechanical aptitude and it would be very hard to ride a bus with that thing on.

That is epic in all senses of the word.

Really

I think this is the funniest thing I've ever seen you do.

Yup, that fact that you even thought of that shows how obsessed you are, great picture though.

That is most excellent!

Heh, and not only do the overalls look like scaffolding, they also look like a sort of full body Chinese finger trap.

I actually just burst out laughing, which I never do.

*adds to memories*

Twirly, despite all of your noodley awesomeness, I must say this... you are a loonatic.

Oh, if only Australia really did Halloween, and I had the patience for making something like this. If I ever make it to a really cool Discworld convention, however...

If I wasn't going to be Margolotta, I'd definately force someone to build that for me..! Brilliant.

Can I use it?

Hello, I love the artwork on this site, especially this picture. I actually saw someone dressed as a clacks tower at the Masquerade at the 2011 North American Discworld Convention. He won a prize for technical innovation. Anyway, I am making a homemade Discworld board game and would like to use this picture on one of the cards. Just thought I'd check with you and see if that was okay. Email me if you have any questions.
