Upon the Commencement of New Employment

I'm all set up at my new desk now ... I've inherited [scavenged] the cubbyhole of a former colleague who's gone to work at Blue Sky* – it's got three walls, shelving, and, now, a POWAHFOOL COMPUTAH with a DVD drive and two monitors! I might never have to go home again. My narcoleptic June bug is living on top of my desk (at least I think he's alive...) and I shall soon bring assorted decorations and doodles to make this my little fort for the next two years.**

Oh yeah, and I'm working for PBS. Dear PBS: I love you guys!

On the whole, it's as close to a 180 as I can get from my most recent project: 3D dark action/adventure fantasy for a toy company vs. 2D light-hearted preschool programming for a non-profit broadcaster.

And, people: Go visit Tula's Journal – good stuff. And she is my kapooka. My didder. My kin.

*the studio that made Ice Age and Robots From the Makers of Ice Age)
**Two years.

Ah yes, there is nothing so grand as working on a cheerful cartoon show for small children while listening to a bunch of idealistic revolutionary students get slaughtered on a barricade.

Sorry, I'd forgotten I hadn't posted this yet:

The drawing bug struck while having hamburgers with Bananabasket... to be fair, I used mostly his ketchup. But it was my skewer stick.

Les Mis fits every occasion so well, doesn't it?

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, quite – birthday parties, school lunch, road trips through cowboy country ...

[identity profile] kitness.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Red - the blood of angry men, Balck - the dark of ages past, etc. etc"

I think it's quite fitting if you ask me ^_^

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's very educational.

[identity profile] gypsyjr.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude. You draw better than me when you're using condiments. It's not fair. ;)

[identity profile] bananabasket.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, well, I DID have more than enough ketchup.

I have the origianl! BWAHAH! (ok, I sort of stole it and gave twirlynoodle no choice, but its MINE!)

[identity profile] tannhaeuser.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)

First: Heartiest congratulations on the new job! I knew it couldn’t be too long before somebody snapped you up. It’s good to know that my tax money is finally going to be spent on an artistic project I approve of: your salary.

Second: I had already found Tulanoodle’s site via Bananabasket’s, and had been impressed enough to leave a message (especially after finding out that she’s a fellow Nicholas Nickleby fan). Those draconian heads of hers — splendid!

Third: You did that with ketchup?! I despair.

Fourth: No music is quite so grand as the sound of revolutionaries being slaughtered. Vive le Roi!

Fifth (and last): I may have posted this already anonymously. Delete as needed. I re-despair.

I'm so happy your creativity got a lovely new home. I think you've given new life to ketchup.

[identity profile] sannalim.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
And the mustard flowers! I bow down to your mad skillz.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, the flowers were printed on the plate... they just look uncannily like mustard.

[identity profile] cerridwen666.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Wish I could draw that well with ketchup. I can barely make a decent sketch with a pencil...

[identity profile] vfdj22.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, YOU ARE SO AMAZING. You're unbelievable. KETCHUP.

Footnotes!

[identity profile] gabbysun.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Euuurgh, junebugs. :(

DUDE my dad's workplace has two monitors! It is completely rocksome and whenever I get to sit in his chair I move the mouse back from monitor to monitor and giggle. Also, PBS, are you serious!? I love PBS! Quality programming like whoa!; what program are you working on?

You are forgiven for listening to horridly violent music while working because it is Les Mis, and that is amazing.

xDD Ketchup art = fanTAStic! You know, my sister and I used to get French fries, dip them in ketchup, and pretend to lipstick our lips. (YES IT IS A VERB)

(P.S. do kapooka and didder mean . . . sister? *bewildered* THIS STRANGE CANADIAN LANGUAGE; I FATHOM IT NOT.)

[identity profile] fallohidepride.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
That is DISGUSTING. The fact that you can draw like that with ketchup and a skewer...I'll just go kill myself now, kthxbye.

In other news, Les Miz is love. Nothing like a bloody revolution to put you in a calm and happy mood.

[identity profile] fontgirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, Tealin, I have liked your site for awhile, and wanted to congratulate you on your new job! Also, that was amazing that you could do that rendering of Harry using only ketchup! Wow, keep up the awesome work!

LOVE YOUR ART

[identity profile] furys-shadow.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
I simply must tell you that I ADORE your HP art! To be honest, you're the best drawer that I've seen (no offence to other artists who I know/have seen/visited)! LOL. I simply love how you draw "Azkaban Sirius" and Remus looks awesome! You add all these great details to all the characters and I simply MUST congradulate you on it! LOL, okay, I'll shut up now, I'm blabbering again...

[identity profile] tulanoodle.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Is there enough room for me to live there too? Hehehee. I could be the studio mascot.

M is for Mutany! - Um. . .Tealin? Time to seperate the background music from the work space.

"I shall make this letter RED! And this one BLACK! And this one RED! AHAHAHHAHA!!"

(awaiting pun red/read à la 'black and white and red/read all over)

Letter?

(Anonymous) 2005-08-04 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Making it a red letter day for yourself?

[identity profile] tulanoodle.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No, because our father has yet to visit this thread ;)

[identity profile] lync180.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Are you still at the same studio? Or did you go to a new one? If you're at the same one which show is it. 3d still or are you doing something for the flash guys?

[identity profile] blooappall.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
You letters must be red all over then. Geddit?
Well, I had to put it in as you were expecting it.
It's what I do.

Bahahahaha ketchup!

I love your style -- lean, mean, and significant. Are you an animator? What program(s) do you use?

[identity profile] durayan.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You truly need to post this at EP. I need people to get more comfortable with drawing with the tools available, even if they weren't thinking of them as tools! This is PERFECT!

Okay, now I'm hungry for a corndog. Thanks much. (Mincot is here admiring your ketchup, too).

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Okeydokey... were you thinking of any thread in particular?

[identity profile] spicedfries.livejournal.com 2005-08-08 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I bet you could sell that ketchup drawing on Ebay.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-08-08 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Too late, Bananabasket's got it now. Anyone know a good fixative for ketchup?
