Bad Bridesmaid

For the sake of my sanity, I took some time out to draw today. (Work doesn't count.)

Quirrell: "It's strange that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing ... such a little thing."
Quirrell is starting to look like Lupin's scrawny younger brother. [peeved sigh]

Marius and Eponine: I like it much better than the older one ... it's more of what I was going for. I liked Marius's nose when I drew it but now that I look at it on the screen, it looks a bit too big. Nrgh. I am so losing my touch ... The show I'm on is not very demanding in the anatomy or posing departments and I am totally losing it. Can't wait for life drawing to start. And for me to get enough free time to work on my own stuff, namely ill-fated clacksmen, if I ever work up the nerve and motivation to resume the blasted thing.

I need something cathartic...

Now there's a fic I want to read -- Quirinus Quirrell, sekrit younger brother of Remus Lupin. :D

I think perhaps it's the nose that makes it so? Lower and pointier would keep them more separate and look more...Quirrellian? Well, that's IMO, of course. It's a great pose, though...

personally, I think it's the turban...

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
It does rather look like Lupin's hair, I suppose. *studies*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/__lys_fleurx__/ 2005-09-01 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
face it it looks like a turban...

lol

I just have to butt in:
What's your icon from? It's strangely mesmerising..

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
As far as I know, no one has yet agreed on what his first name is. Any official word yet? Or am I just going to have to write to Ms Rowling myself? (I probably should anyway, considering how much I've gotten out of her work...)

[identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
I believe the Lexicon says it's Quirinus. *checks* I got slapped down for labeling him "Joseph" which I thought was quite a nice name for him...

Yep, the Lexicon says:

Quirinus is the name given on the Trading Card, which according to Wizards of the Coast™ came from Rowling. This can't be confirmed as canon at this point, however.

[identity profile] tannhaeuser.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
I think it is a LURVELY drawing, Tealin, although I agree that a more snipe-like nose will help to differentiate him from Lupin. But I must admit to a certain fascination with the idea that Quirrell is Lupin’s younger brother. As it happens, “Quirinus” was the name given, after his deification, to Romulus.

As to Marius, it was the opinion of the late G. K. Chesterton, as given (for instance) in The Napoleon of Notting Hill, that BIG NOZES REWL!!!! I may not be quoting exactly.

"'Quirinus' was the name given, after his deification, to Romulus."

Whoa. We may be on to something here.

[identity profile] chocolatepot.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought that Quirrel was Remus, at first, until I saw that it was a turban and not hair. I wish I could give a helpful suggestion ... maybe a slightly shorter nose?

[identity profile] paddita.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I love, love, love the look on Eponine's face. And I don't think Marius's nose is too big, I think it's kind of hot. :)

Beautiful work!

[identity profile] crypticidentity.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
They're still good drawings. Although I agree Quirrel looks a little too Lupin for my liking...

I apologize for being blind, but what exactly is in Quirrel's hand? The ring? The Sorceror's/Philosopher's Stone? I can't tell.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-09-02 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's the Stone. In its brown paper packaging, tied up with string (la la la). I know, it's a bit vague...

[identity profile] dragonclaws.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
And I look at those and think, "Why can't I draw like that?"

[identity profile] dragonclaws.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Um...is it okay if I study your drawing style?

::is a fangeek::

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Only if you promise to look at other people too. A balanced diet is good, whether food or artistic style.

PROMISE.

[identity profile] dragonclaws.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry. I have an ELFwood account, and I go on that and spam the tours.

So, yes, I promise to be a well-rounded little fangeek.

[identity profile] maladroitness.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh* You are a wizard with facial expressions...or should I say Witch? Hee hee, I wish I was Witch :)

[identity profile] morbid-bunny.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You're totally not losing your touch... You're still ruddy BRILLIANT.

And I've been meaning to tell you, lovely godess Taelin, that you're responsible for getting me many odd looks in school and on the bus... after you mentioned the whole bus-drawing thing on that picture of Hagrid and Harry in the boat, I've been drawing people from behind. Everywhere. Today I drew about 4 people in various classes, two random girls on my bus, and my busdriver by watching her in the mirror....

Thanks a lot. Now people think I'm some weird stalker ;p

On a brighter note, I AM getting much better at eyes/noses/etc...

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
See, it WORKS!

[identity profile] pyri-prongs.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Addressing points in order:
1. Everyone deserves a doodle break to save their sanity. What if you cracked from lack of doodling and doodled on the wedding dress??

2.BEST HP/LOTR CROSSOVER EVER!...Or maybe not. But it's damn well up in the top 5 ^_^

3. Oh my gosh, he DOES look like young!Lupin. That is very creepy O.o

4.Awwwww! I think this version has increased the cute level. It is very cute! And I like the big nose: very distinctive :)

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Quirrell's line is actually said by Boromir. In reference to the Ring.

Hmm, how would one fabricate a LotR/Les Mis crossover?

Quirrel

[identity profile] lepitot.livejournal.com 2005-09-02 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what has suddenly inspired you to draw a bunch of HP pictures, but I like it!

Quirrel is bugging me though. He is incredibly skinny. Shouldn't the back of his robes be a little farther...back? He looks anerexic or something.

I have no idea who the other characters are, but it's a lovely drawing.

Sorry...everytime I comment your LJ it's always a critique as if it were on EP or something. I'll try to stop that...

Jon

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-09-02 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, criticism is welcome everywhere. I don't put the pictures up just to rake in compliments (despite what the result may be), it's just a handy way to keep the drawings coming and get some feedback – good or bad – without having to update my whole page.

I have always pictured Quirrell being really skinny ... his rear might stick out a little more in this pose, you're right, but caricature has to extend past the face, and so with the necessary exaggeration of anatomy, he wouldn't have much bulk.

I think I love you.

Marry me?

(honest) maybey it is weird but he just has this sorta..............v. big nose(lupin again) he just as i amagined him, and he cant be all bad couse tonks loves him too!!(note to self:yes gabby but he's made up and 37 years old, your 13!sad sad girl!!)

(Anonymous) 2005-09-02 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know how long your commute is, but mine adds up to three hours daily. I even bring a sketch book to school, so maybe I should do some bus-drawing too. Bus people are quite a colourful bunch.

I'm thinking (If you don't mind a suggestion), you say that Lee Ingleby would make a good Quirrel. Why not try to make him look a little more like Lee?

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-09-02 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Bus drawing is such a great tool and resource ... bus people are more interesting.

Heh, I tried the whole caricature thing, but as you can see it didn't get far. Not too good at working from memory, I suppose. Or it was a bad drawing day. It sure felt like a bad drawing day – my pencil was really not cooperating.

[identity profile] azvolrien.livejournal.com 2005-09-03 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Marius' nose does not look too big by a long shot. He looks like a Marius. Eponine looks a lot better though - more like a girl. Erm.

[identity profile] nikitaspy.livejournal.com 2005-09-03 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess this is the big day for the wedding, so I just wanted to wish both you and your happy friend the best of luck! :-) Do please tell us all about it when you recover/regain consciousness.

PS: I used to be commenting as VeronikaMG. Just wanna tell you I finally dragged my lazy butt off to the video shop and bougt a copy of the M&C DVD. And I have watched it a little more than healthy. You are a bad girl for giving me yet another obsession. (Not that I mind terribly, though!)

[identity profile] ubiquitouspitt.livejournal.com 2005-09-04 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Why does Quirrel... remind me of Mr Ingleby..?

And I really like the Marius/Eponine drawing. I'll never think of Eponine the same again :)

[identity profile] wicked-warrior.livejournal.com 2005-09-04 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I like your work here, specially the folds in the clothing. I nearly prefer this Marius drawing than the last one you did ( You can feel Eponine's weight here)though I'm no expert, don't take my comment too seriously :P Are they Discworld characters or from another novel?
Life drawing rules, can't wait for having a full-time class myself.Everybody here is talking about drawing on the bus... lucky people, I can't stop feeling dizzy, bus drivers here are dangerous :(

(Anonymous) 2005-09-05 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
They are from Les Miserables.. but Discworld rules too!

[identity profile] longleggedgit.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Very lovely art. I hope you don't mind if I friend you. :)

[identity profile] ah-well-so.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
if i may chip in here, his first name is quirin. ms. rowling said so at some point... i see where he's beginning to look like lupin, but then on the other hand, his facial expression is as unlupin as it could possibly be so that would kind of make up for it i guess. mmmmmmmmm... lupin!

[identity profile] typhon-9.livejournal.com 2006-01-18 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
As an avid Les Mis fan (and HP fan...and you fan), I think Marius looks perfect. Eponine too.

You're amazing. Amamzing.
