Developments

For those following the Library/eBay race:

I just got an email this morning telling me my item has been shipped from the store in North Carolina. (Why are there so many used book stores in NC? I am jealous of you, Ubiquitouspitt!) It should be here in a couple of weeks, barring natural disasters, postal strikes, or the collapse of civilisation as we know it. Meanwhile, I am now at #11 on the library list! Patrons of this item seem to consistently return it before the due date, so there is still hope!

Hmm... I hope the speedy return bodes nothing ill about the quality of the audio!

No, I've heard it, I know it's good ... The people checking this out are more likely to be responsible, conscientious adults than the people who check out what I normally have on hold, i.e. Snicket audio books.

Audio books

I wish you the best of luck and for the book, god speed.
Have you heard the british Harry Potte audio books? They're read by Stephen Fry who is in such programs as Blackadder (in which he is joined by Tony Robinson who often reads the Discworld books on tape) and does a range of voices using his bizarre mastery over the english language. He's quite good.

I really really want to hear Stephen Fry's reading, because I don't like Jim Dale and Mr Fry is brilliant in everything else I've ever seen (or heard) him do. Unfortunately, even though we get the British print editions in Canada, we get the American audio books... go fig.

I've heard he also is friend-ish with JKR, so you would know his pronunciations are correct. Dale spent so long saying "Her-monn-ee" that most people still try to pronounce it that way. Have you seen the Jeeves and Wooster movies? They're Stephen Fry and wonderful.

It should be possible to find the British audio books on the net. Buy them for yourself for the coming Christmases and birthdays. :)

You could try Amazon. It's odd but JKRowling doesn't pronounce the t on the end of coldemort, but other than i think most of the pronounciations in the films are correct, and that is how Fry reads them.

Stephen Fry is God. He reads with such wonderful precision and care, does the voices, seems to be enjoying it... there is nothing better than him reading Harry Potter. He was also a student of Latin (I'm certain he went to Grammar School so it was probably compulsory, but I think he studied it further) which means that he pronounces the spells as they should be, which is fab.

Also, he has the second most gorgeous voice in the world.
