The Rockinest Century

Alle Psallite cum Luya

This is mostly for Octaveleap but anyone else who enjoys a good early polyphonic motet might appreciate the link as well.

It says 3/4 but it mostly goes in one; a quarter note equals 200 or thereabouts. It sounds really cool with period-style percussion and recorders, too.

Whoooa. That is ANCIENT. And creepy and lovely like a medieval motet should be.

I'm a little confused about the second line, because the notes start on measure one, but the lyrics and imitative melody don't start 'till measure seven...

I only ask because I'll probably suggest this to my caroling group this year.

I think, when you have a note that doesn't have an actual word ascribed to it, you just say 'ah.' Iss pretty! I'm glad you like it... I wish I could convince the church choir to sing stuff like this instead of their ridiculously horrible cheesy self-avowedly 'cutesy' holiday songs. :P

to whom all motets immediately suggest Holmes's monograph on Lassus

*stares* Fascinating! Who wrote it? What do the words mean?
