Twiddly-um

Yesterday was a bad drawing day. Ooh, bad. But an evening spent in relative confinement with my sister (more on that later, perhaps, though really she should post about it on her blog) managed to squeeze out a few amusing doodles, even if they're not particularly fantastic:

I realised the genre of French Canadian vampirism may be an untapped vein (so to speak) of fantastic material.

Sissypoo and her little obsessions ... this story has a fuller background, but I'm not sure she wants me spilling it all over the Intarweb.

An English gentleman frolicking in his native habitat.

And how I felt about my drawing skills in general yesterday (made a link because it may put some people off their lunch) ... pretty pathetic. My new sketchbook is not off to a good start.

Oh yes, and if anyone caught The Daily Show last night, YES: the Canadian election really is that boring. But it only lasts about three months, BY LAW, which rocks. ROCKS.

I so need to get in contact with your sister again.

I MISS YOU TWO.

Well, she never answers her email. : ) Though, really, it's starting to look like I never do, too. I still owe you a reply, don't I?

Presumably he's about to be tackled, handcuffed and stuffed into a sack by the Stonehenge security personnel for skipping over the sacred perimeter fence ^_^
And the maple tree attack makes me giggle. *refrains from even thinking about making a 'sweet tooth' joke*

hehe

ITS WILLY WONKA!!!!, BUT NOT THAT SUPER CUTE GUY JOHNNY DEPT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
[unblocks ears] Uh ... something about the idea of a Johnny Department sounds vaguely obscene.

"Johnny department"

OK, I get how you felt. but you know we love you anyway. Even if you don't think your drawings are good, we think they are great. Always.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
: ) You're so sweet.

[identity profile] buttfacemakani.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
xD oh man i love the english gentleman x))).

Oh btw, you wouldn't want to come talk on Pottercast (http://pottercast.com) would you? They're starting a fanartist/fanwriter segment every other week.. and I'm in charge of getting fanartists :D bwahahaha so yes, you need to be interviewed sometime :P.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Umm... I ... suppose ... I'm much better in text than voice, though. Er.

Again with the modesty!

(Anonymous) 2006-01-24 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
It is possible that you are even MORE articulate and intelligent in print than you are verbally, but I know for a fact that you can hold your own quite handily without the aid of a keyboard when necessary. I think you'd make a brilliant interviewee. (<man, that is a weird-looking word) ---DisneyBoy

You are too kind. Really. :)

[identity profile] pandoras-closet.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I say go for it. The french canadian vampires, I mean.

[identity profile] zeshen.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe you should do some requests

(Anonymous) 2006-01-20 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
She just did a bunch, where were you?

Subject matter or no subject matter, it's the actual drawing skill that's gone on holiday.

Bahahahaha! That English Gentleman is hilarious!

[identity profile] lyshigz1989.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The "English gentleman frolicking in his native habitat" made me laugh. A lot. Far more than should be considered normal.

[identity profile] aurorawest.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Normally I just lurk around your lj, but since the subject of French Canadian vampires came up, may I suggest that you try your hand at some Minnesotan vampires? We apparently have one running for governor here, which seems like it could offer many artistic possibilities. ;)

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid I'm not as familiar with visual cliches of Minnesotans... all my impressions come from A Prairie Home Companion. : )

[identity profile] leksey-esor.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Being a former Minnesotan I can only tell you one thing that I know that most of us do is say 'rut' instead of 'root'and we assume Iowa is filled with brainless farmers.

If you want a funny movie that takes place in MN, check out Drop Dead Gorgeous which takes place in my former town, Chaska. Hehe, good times.

[identity profile] bobcatmoran.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Being a life-long Minnesotan, I can say that the cliche Minnesotan at this time of year is wrapped up in scarves, hats, mittens, jackets, etc. to the point that all you have is this large bundle of winter clothing with two eyes peeking out.

[identity profile] azvolrien.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
I laugh at the English gentleman frolicking in his natural habitat.

I also want to see Princess Mononoke, but that's utterly irrelevant.

[identity profile] poisonedwriter.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think they're all hilarious. They may not be quite up to your extraordinary level of caliber, so to speak, but they are extraordinarily amusing. My personal favorite: The English Gentleman. It's so stereotypical, it's funny.

Way more than you wanted to know about a campy TV series

(Anonymous) 2006-01-24 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed your drawings (including the poo,'cause I've been there many times, too). Your idea about French-Canadian vampires reminded me: I spent Christmas break watching the DVD of a few seasons of "Forever Knight" (John got them from the libraray - surprise!). If you are among the uninitiated, it was a short-lived series about an ancient vampire (Nick - get it?) trying to atone for his many sins by living as a police detective in modern day Vancouver! Every once in a while, he has a run in with his old french vampire lover (Janette), who runs a bar (for vampires) in some weird part of town, or his french vampire former mentor/nemesis (LaCroix), who DJ's a late-night radio show, saying spooky things mostly directed at Nick (he seems to be LaCroix's only listener). Sometimes kinda cool and often unintentionally funny (it sometimes sinks into cheesy melodrama, and the vampires get dayglow orange eyes when they attack), but usually mildy diverting - and occaisionally bilingual (French and English)!

That sounds utterly fascinating!

more on "Forever Knight"

(Anonymous) 2006-01-27 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
John actually did an illustrated column on his deviant art page all about Forever Knight, and a brief history of the use of vampires in literature and the media you might enjoy. Look it up! (Pages from a giant book flip over the frame as it closes with sparkly music)
