An Auspicious Day

Disney Buys Pixar

Also, I love whoever picked the icon for the story on the BBC news front page.

Well, there is one good side:

At least now The Incredibles and Toy Story sequels won't suck. Hopefully.

[identity profile] last-archangel.livejournal.com 2006-01-24 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
They're making another Toy Story sequel? O_o

...adore the icon, by the way ;) Go Azzy.

Toy Story 3

Well, they WERE making a sequel (and sequels to every other Pixar film were in the works) at an off-site facility with a pretty sizeable staff...but now, who knows? It could all just go away, or Lasseter might assume creative control over it. Since I have some very talented friends working over there (at the sequel studio), I would love to see them all reassigned to original content, and use their talents and resources for GOOD! But that may just be too much to hope for.

I have to say, yes, that is a rather amusing icon for the story.

I found a job opening with Disney. Despite the fact that I still love the company (or what it principly should stand for) I really wonder if I should apply. :/

Look at it this way...

(Anonymous) 2006-01-25 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
You're pretty much applying for Pixar, too! For whatever that's worth...

I think this can only mean good things... what with Steve Jobs now on Disney's board, and John Lassiter as chief creative officer over animation and Disney Imagineering... I shall be watching with great interest. :)

After their talks kind of fell apart before, this is really the last thing I would have expected. I'm just, ugh, so aaargh - I can't figure out what to make of it.

[identity profile] dragonclaws.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
My icon says it all.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
That is a very expressive icon.

[identity profile] dragonclaws.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
And that's why I love it!

[identity profile] nerezzi.livejournal.com 2006-02-13 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my goodness - icon lust love. May I take for personal use, with credit>

Thanks!

[identity profile] dragonclaws.livejournal.com 2006-02-13 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
By all means. However, did not make, and therefore I shall not be the credit-worthy individual.

[identity profile] my2k.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
PEOPLE- THIS COULD BE A GOOD THING.

seriously, Pixar agreed to it only for 100% control of Disney's animation. Eisner is history, SO THIS HAS A CHANCE.

Every singly fibre of my being wants this to work out :(

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
The deal for Disney Animation sounds too good to be true, so I hope the aphorism doesn't hold true in this case.

I'm so sorry, uh, I'll delete it.. I got carried away :(

[identity profile] tannhaeuser.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Now, now, I wasn't seriously offended... I just like the quotation!

[identity profile] vytresna.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
W00T! There I was worrying that we'd have to wait till July 8, 2010 before animation showed any quality whatever - thanks for giving me hope!

So what do we call ourselves now?

(Anonymous) 2006-01-25 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure many have you have already thought about this, but Disney/Pixar Animation is a little clunky - doesn't fall trippingly off the tongue, you know? My original idea was "Pixey" studios (isn't that cute?) Or how about "Lassetavia"? So far, my co-workers have come up with:
--Dixar (could also be "Dix-R-us")
--Prixar
Their snarky, crass mood is infectious - I remembered that Spike Lee's movies were labeled "A Spike Lee Joint" - maybe our films could be labeled as "A John Lasseturd" (how juvenile! I'm sorry! Sort of! I really do like Lasseter, but I can't resist playing with words like that!)
Any other suggestions from the peanut gallery?
---DisneyBoy

No takers?

(Anonymous) 2006-01-25 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Fine, I shall amuse myself (as usual):
-Lassetoons ("A John Lassetoon")
-The Lasseteers (kids wearing Hawaaian shirts & shorts riding scooters everywhere)
-(Disneyland could become Lassetown, the commisary could be the Lasseteria, etc., etc.)
-PDA (Pixar Disney Animation)
-Disnar
-Disnix (a double-negative!)
-Pisnixarey
-Wissle Dissle Pisnixle (or Pixel Disnixle? Pixnissle?)
I can keep his up all day...
--DisnixiPixarBoy

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I had come up with a good one this morning while brushing my teeth, but I've of course forgotten it. It was something like 'DRIXNAR' said in a big dramatic voice like some sort of D&D villain.

I like the Lasseteria. And the Lasseteers. You guys should make yourselves Lasseteer shirts (and maybe Lampy hats) to declare your allegiance and encourage a spirit of community. Or maybe just creep him out. ;)

Somebody stop me please!

(Anonymous) 2006-01-25 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHA! A brilliant plan!
But wait - there's more:
-Walt P. Disney ("Pixar is our middle name")
-Walt Disney Pixars (or Walt Disney Pixels - get it?)
-Wizzle Dizzle Pixshnizzle (I'll perfect it eventually)
---PixeyBoy (yes, I am comfortable in my masculinity)

One more...

(Anonymous) 2006-01-25 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah...duh!
-"Dixey" ("I wish I was in Dixey - a-way! A-way" - "Dixeyland", etc.)

But I really like Drixnar, too - it sounds really creepy and Orwellian and very D&D villain-ish!

[geeksnork]

The Grand Trunk Company, woo!

Though I'm pretty sure there was (and possibly still is) a real Grand Trunk Company. So maybe that wouldn't be allowed. Aside from being completely inaccurate and inappropriate, of course.

finally

(Anonymous) 2006-01-26 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
Not having read "Going Postal" yet, I looked up "Grand Trunk Company" in the Wikipedia, so I finally know what and who you're all talking about - heh! I get it! I also found out about the Grand Trunk Railway Company, which used to be the biggest railway system in the world, and there are sections of track in Canada that still use the name "Grand Trunk", though now owned by the CN (Canadian Northern). Some pretty interesting stuff. Seems like Pratchet is worth reading just to look up all of the historical references he makes!

"Drixnar" also could be a nasty cold or allergy medication. :)

BTW...

(Anonymous) 2006-01-25 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
it's really amusing to see so many of you at such a loss for words - it may never happen again! :) (But I was definitely there when I first heard the news, too!)
