Make Saturdays Work for You
Here I am, at work on a Saturday, but behold! I am not working! Sissypoo is using the Cintiq and I am taking the opportunity to have some free time in a creative environment, not distracted by chores, to get some drawing done. I mean to pick up on that Monstrous Regiment project I'd started and then abandoned ... so of course I'm spending my time posting in here and not with my sketchbook, heh. But I have to post yesterday's sketchbook, doncha see?
Yesterday's Sketchbook! - Drawn in ten minutes in bed last night. All-time record, I believe. Most of it's the view of the end of the bed from my pillow. The horse with an identity crisis relates to an issue with the show I'm working on at the moment, and you get twenty points if you guess what was on my mind when I drew that other picture. And remember, points mean prizes. What do points mean?
Not actually prizes. I'm being silly/Humphrey Lyttleton.

(sings)"How much is that don-key in the win-dow?(HEE-HAW!)"
Sorry - best I could come up with at 11:30 at night.
Lyrics
Donkey riding, donkey riding
Way hey and away we go
Ridin' on a donkey.
Was you ever in Quebec
Launchin' timber on the deck?
Where ya break yer bleedin' neck
Ridin' on a donkey!
Brought to you by . . . .
GREAT BIG SEA!

GBS also has a song called "Hanging Johnny" with lines like:
Well, first I hanged me mother
Away boys, away
Me sister and me brother
And it's hang boys, hang
Well, next I hanged me granny
Away boys, away
Well, I'd hang the Holy Family
And it's hang boys, hang
Apparently, "mother" "sister" "brother" "granny" and "Holy Family" are the nicknames of sails, and the song was a chant sung by sailors as they hand cranked the sails up into place.

Re: Lyrics
Actually I have not been a Girl Scout since the Jurassic Age. But we did have a cool troop- we tended to be much more outdoors and adventure oriented than many Girl Scouts are. We had this awesome wilderness camp, too, where I worked as a horse wrangler and counselor. There we taught the girls the donkey song and lots and lots and lots of other very irreverent and even mildly subversive songs- but it was great. Girls are so hung up in being proper and fashionable they need to be silly sometimes. I still wind up teaching those songs to people on horseback riding tours when we start singing songs from each others' countries and people think Americans don't know anything more than pop songs.
Re: Lyrics
Yes. We all need to be silly on a regular basis! I'm doing what I can to make up for everyone else's unfilled quotas - it's really hard work! :)

Twenty points to you, dear sir or madam. Pretty amazing powers of recognition, for him bearing absolutely no physical resemblance at all. :D

Man, I hate being on the outside looking in at the cool people - I can see your lips moving, but I have no idea what's being discussed.
