Bye bye, Brilliant Music

The UK Theme Retires

When I first heard this, completely by chance, I thought it was the single most brilliant arrangement of a medley ever ... I had no idea it was a daily thing. Go listen to it.

Wow. That's cool. And of course, now they're taking it off.

The Greensleeves and What Shall We Do With the Drunken Sailor bit is my favorite.

there were no bassoon solos?

If I ever was to become an early riser.. ask tula how likely that sounds. I would definitely make this a part of my morning ritual. As things stand, some of the more percussive sections would fit well with my current mad rush to get to school 'mornings'.

Well Gustav Holst was English, wasn't he? I think he was born in England at least.

There's always Elgar, and Vaughan Williams... if you like that sort of thing. (I don't like Britten, so I didn't add him.)

I heard once, in reference to Handel, I believe, a quote from a German (possibly from Handel himself?) that went along the lines of 'The English can't make music but they love hearing it' or something.

I absolutely adore Ralph Vaughan Williams - his music has this longing, aching bittersweet quality, interspersed with powerful, knock-you-out-of-your-seat otherworldly thrills and chills (much of Hodie) and lovely quiet, mysterious etherial passages - I can't get enough of his stuff (I sure can't make good music but I love hearing it! I must be English.)(and I am - as well as Scottish, Irish, and German)
I'm so excited - my dad, brother, cousin, and aunt will perform (along with a huge choir, not all by themselves) Carmina Burana in October - I hope I can make it out there for the concert!

So SAD! Who would choose dumb ol' news over beautiful music? At least I got to hear it once. And now Tula is gone - you must feel doubly bereaved!:(
