Art Time!

I've been forcing myself to draw more lately, and got some quality time with my scanner tonight. Unfortunately I left my life drawing pad (which has some worthwhile doodles in it) at my sister's so that'll have to be done later.

Left to right:
- Frapp and Matcha go on a mission in disguise, à la Basil and Dawson.
- A better drawing of Perc's face.
- Frapp ponders his place in the universe over a mug of ... something or other.
- Some attempts at one of my sister's Vancouver Privateers, the mysterious and brooding Tazo, who had a terrible encounter with a steamer and now only drinks tea. He's sort of your standard emo anime guy but I don't really know how to draw them, so I hijacked a couple people I saw through the course of that day, one downtown and one on the bus. I liked the idea of him being middle-aged, but as I kept trying things out he kept getting younger (partly because the guy on the bus looked about 19). Got some interesting drawings, dunno if any of them are him (Tula?) – I feel pretty certain he'd wear a black turtleneck and tweed sportcoat though.
This scene suddenly struck me as I was walking home today. Usually I fritter away my independence on cooking dinner or doing dishes or – no! – LiveJournal, but today I decided to cash it in and, in an uncharacteristically impulsive move, deviated from my walk home and spent two hours drawing in the library's café. This is the result of that. I've forfeited my overdue laundry night for it, but it was fun and I got a drawing out of it.
This is the scene from Going Postal where Antimony Parker and his Aggie come to thank Moist for delivering the ancient letter. I've bent the text a bit and had Aggie be the old woman in the following:
'I said is it true you're opening the old place again?' she repeated. 'My granddad used to work there!'
    'Well done him,' said Moist.
'He said there was a curse!' said the woman, as if the idea was rather pleasing. [...] 'It lives under the floor and drives you maaad!' she went on, enjoying the syllable so much she seemed loath to let it go. 'Maaad!'
I think [livejournal.com profile] salamandersoup has done this scene and I offer profuse apologies for stealing it, but the muse struck at just the right time and it's been ages since I drew anything from GP so ... I had to, you see? It's been so long, in fact, that Moist is starting to take on some of Willam's characteristsics. Ugh. Anyway, here, now, is (possibly) Moist's P.O.V. of the 'maaad' lady.

These are wonderful! I'm getting really fond of Matcha; I think because it's sorta rare to see a 'plus-sized' woman in a good role, and you do a really nice job of drawing her with all her 'plus' included. :) I really like Antimony Parker, too; he looks just like I picture him. You have a real knack for making me go, "Yep, that's just what so-and-so looks like!" (although for some reason Groat looks younger than I imagined...)

Nifty! I like Frapp's brooding moment, and the old lady amuses me immensely, along with Moist's bewildered expression.

As for the Tazos, I liked the one second from the left the best, personally.

Bweeee, crazy old lady! xD nununuuu, I only wish I had drawn this scene. Yours is a million times better than anything I could kick out.

Pssh, who needs clean clothes, anyway? :D

Laundry: Exactly! Unfortunately, all the people around me seem to mind... sigh...

Hmm, I swear someone has drawn this scene ... but who?

*GIGGLING MADLY at the maaaad lady*

Also, I'm really enjoying your coffee pirate pictures, despite having very little idea what they're actually about. XD

As a relatively new reader of Discworld (I've read 16 so far) I must say that I really enjoy your drawings of it. You have great talent. Also, from seeing how much you seem to love Going Postal I'm really looking forward to reading it.
I actually meet Terry Pratchett at a book signing yesterday, he seems a very nice man. He's also very confident in what he does - as you'd expect after writing as many novels as he has. Very patient too.

Being the absolute novice and nonexpert that I am, I hesitate to offer any criticism to someone who has not only studied the art of... art... but also has proven her skill in the field, and proves it once more with every new opus. Nevertheless, I have the tendencies of a 'very determined rabbit', so I must beg your patience and put forth this cautious question: Is it just me, or do Frapp's legs look a little shorter than usual in his "mysteries of the universe" picture?

Could be, could be .... I was pretty unhappy with it in general and only decided to put a black line on and scan it at the last minute so I gave up before fixing stuff... heh. You caught me!

Going Postal ftw!

You know, I recognize those disguises . . . XD

Yeehaah!

Thanks for the Going Postal illustration! It is so cute, especially Groat's expression!

I love this novel, and you are one of the best illustrators of it! Yea!

OMG thank you for referencing The Great Mouse Detective. Because that's quite possibly one of my favorite Disney films.
