It's the Earthglow on the dark part of the moon that caught my attention .. it might be invisible if your monitor's settings are dark. Also the proximity and brightness of the planet is pretty cool, I thought.
I had the moon in full view on my drive home last night and I said to myself that is one beautiful sight. I think it was because the moon and the few stars around it looked a little brighter than normal. It just stood out last night.
Usually when I try to take a pic of the moon it only shows up as light speck. :P Disappointing when I tried to get it of the full lunar eclipse not too long ago...
A friend of mine took a very similar picture recently! :o The oddness of that is that the sky was even clear enough in this area for the stars/moon to be seen.
How did you manage to take such a cool picture! I've tried to take similar pictures but either my camera is crap or I'm doing something wrong because I never get anything good.
I've got a pretty good camera (this is my fancy one, not the one I haul around in my pocket in case I see something amusing). I balanced it on the railing of my balcony (with the strap around my wrist in case of gravity) and put a box of mechanical pencil lead under the sticky-out lens bit to get the right angle, and zoomed in all the way. There were a few very blurry attempts before I got this one ... I'm not quite sure what I did differently to get it to stay still but something worked just right.
Digital cameras are the best thing that ever happened to my photography skills. Not only is there no viewfinder offset, which always messed up what little composition skills I had, but you can take hundreds and hundreds of pictures without having to pay for the film or developing, and you can see the results immediately so you know what to fix.
A SIGN ! I think it's the proof that the shippers of Dobby/the giant squid are right ! Or maybe an omen for the coffe pirates. Or the return of Rincewind.
Well, this city has not been hit with a wave of remodeling (no more than usual anyway), which leads me to once again conclude that AAAUGH ASTROLOGY IS RUBBISH!!
I saw this same moon a few nights ago and stopped to wonder at it as well. My friends were like "wtf its the moon" but I thought the way you could see the crescent shape and the rest of it at the same time were so cool.
I saw it too, had me stop in my tracks for a good minute. And I kept thinking how we'll probably never see that particular alignment again. Oddly enough I was in a very good mood that night after a particularly bad week at work. Very cosmic.
