Prerequisite

For clarification in the coming weeks:

Thud! (a.k.a. THUD!, Thud, and probably THud and THUUUUD!!!!!) is the newest Discworld book, by the inimitable Terry Pratchett. You can find out more about it here. (That may or may not be a sales plug, but Amazon has the most information on it, so there.) So, to newcomers who have not been following my intensely boring Thud! saga, that is what Thud! is, not a randomly abused onomatopoeia.

Thank you. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. This post will remain on top until uncertainties of subject matter are cleared up, so don't forget to scroll down.

Intensely boring? Intensely boring? You mean we're not all held in rapt attention by the search for Thud!? It's just me?

(You'll think that was sarcastic, but it's really not.)

I can't believe you took the time off of reading to post! If I had the book, I think I'd call in sick and break all human contact until it was finished!

I had only read the two prologuey type thingies when I took the picture. Hadn't started the plot yet. Now I have, but I had to pass the computer on my way to getting a drink out of the fridge and couldn't resist.

Since when is it December?

Sorry, I don't mean to be annoying, but you may want to fix the date for this post.

I dated it this way so that it would stay on top, and therefore be visible to anyone who came visiting. Once the identity of Thud! was no longer an isue, I'd delete it.

Oh dear. Sorry.

Erm, sorry, I was just wondering....
What's the first novel in the Discworld series? You've suddenly got me quite interested in Terry Pratchett.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Before I tell you what is the first one, you must promise not to read it first. Because the first ... oh, five or so, are not as good as the later ones, so while you may enjoy them they won't give you an accurate impression of the series.

The first one is The Colour of Magic.

Good ones to start with are Mort, Pyramids, Small Gods, Guards! Guards!, or Wyrd Sisters. Really you could start with any of them except Night Watch or, I think, Thud!.

Or Fifth Elephant, maybe. That one's less fun if you don't know the characters.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
True, but you'll still get the story. They're all more fun if you know the characters. Except for the one-off ones, of course, because then there are no (or few) stock characters to be familiar with.

Interesante!

Can any one list these books in order or is there a numbering on the books themselves? I am also curious about this.

Thus the need for . . .

American covers. Colour Would confuse too many Americans and booksellers (when trying to search for the title). Still, does not answer the question of why Mourt, Small Gouds, Hougfather, and Gououd Oumens are not sold under those title spellings.

Discworld

I got a question

can you read the books without reading others before...i mean do you have to start with the first and then the second and then...or is it separate stories????????

I hope you don't mind, but I had to add you. I was sent here by [livejournal.com profile] jesskat. You love Discworld and HP and your fanart is just brilliant. Did you ever work as an animator? Because you could have kicked the ass of half the people I used to work with. Amazing stuff. :)

Hi! Stumbled across you from the Discworld LJ, and now I see that you also like Harry Potter. Your artwork is amazing and I've added you so I can keep up with all your great stuff.

About your old Redwall art??

Hi Tealin!
My name is Claudia, I am from Argentina. I have lurked at your HP Art site for a while now, in fact, I think several years! You are a great artist. I remember seeing some Redwall drawings at your site, but I cannot find them anymore...I read the Redwall series because of your art, and now I have started with Pratchett, I have to thank you for these additions to my life they are great! Is there anywhere on the net where I could still see your old Redwall drawings??
Thanks!!

Yeek ... I don't thik I even have those old Redwall drawings on my computer, much less on my site anywhere. they're frightening! Look at the new ones instead, which are only frightening in their completre ignorance of mammalian anatomy!
