A Mission

It has recently been brought to my attention that someone on DeviantArt has posted some of my artwork as his own. I rooted around a bit, looking for his email address, but it's not posted anywhere. I don't have a DeviantArt account, myself, so I can't drop him a note saying 'Um, yeah, those are mine, you didn't ask permission or give me credit, so take them down now, thanks very much.' So now I call upon my friends who do have accounts to bring politely to his attention that he has stolen that artwork, and the author would very much like it taken down, please. Please?

(He didn't even put up the best ones ... I'm still puzzled about that.)

One Day Later...
Success! Thanks, everyone!

I'll try to do something about it... I'm on deviantart... I'm sorry this happened to you... Gahhh... I'll leave a comment, and if nothing has changed, I will send a note to the staff. Hope it'll end up ok.

[identity profile] dragonclaws.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm on DeviantArt, too. I'll see what I can do. ARGH, that just rubs me the wrong way.

I'm also on DA, and I'll try to do what I can. This is just wrong - I"m sorry this happens to you.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm surprised how little it's happened. I can only think of three times, in the entire history of my site, when someone has used my drawings as their own. Maybe I just don't find out about it most of the time, but I've been pleasantly surprised at the honesty of the HP community.

[identity profile] kyla-grievous.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Left him a comment... Hope he'll get the stuff down. Art thieves, get a life.

[identity profile] dragonclaws.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Left him a comment, and warned him ahead of time that I am reporting him. It'll be gone soon.

Goddamn it. That's just awful. I wouldn't want anyone stealing my drawings. How can he get any pride from showing something he didn't do? I don't understand it!

[identity profile] lyshigz1989.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's just... wow. Special. For once I cant think of anything to say. Just... wow. That guy really needs a life. And a brick rammed up his nose.

[identity profile] sreya.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Buh?

I never get that. What's the point of doing that, anyway? I mean, I can understand (though not approve) when someone uses fanart as part of a site design or something and doesn't credit -- at least there's a purpose behind it. But simply copy-paste into your own site like that? Seems like wasted effort.

I've got a DA account, so I'll leave him an annoying comment. :~p

I don't even think he's a Potter fan, I mean, look at his captions...

Oh, by the way, you should get a deviantart account. You would be very warmly welcomed there! ^_^ And we could finally leave comments for all your pieces of art!

Urgh, DA is SO SLOW for me every single time I go there, no matter the time of day or which computer I'm on ... if I had an account I would probably go mad before I got anything up.

Okay first of all never get a Devart account, I just quit mine of three years and I don't plan to go back. It's poorly run and the mods...well...are bad. Anyway, I needed to tell you that the reporting cannot be done to him, the reporting must be done to the admins. Those who call him out will be KICKED OFF because the admins are such shits and consider that harassment. So you need to get someone to send in a report to the admins instead with exact links and proof of what was stolen, and then they will ban him and what not. I hate DA and I'm so glad I'm rid of it...the cesspool of the art world, really.

[identity profile] chocolatepot.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
If you use the "report this as a DA violation" underneath the picture ... does that go to the admin or him?

[identity profile] ladyapocalymon.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Just to let you know, I believe this is yours (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/5466812/), and the thief isn't the one you mentioned above. *shakes angry fist*

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, that's not mine, but it looks like someone who's studied my stuff. This is why it's important to find a variety of artists to learn from...

Scolded (using my abandoned DA account).

What an idiot.

[identity profile] jesidres.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Reported to moderators. Sadly, this has been happening more often, since they stopped putting a lag between posting art to have time to catch these idiots noobs.

Deviantart isn't bad for its orginal purpose, providing gallery space. Everything else, well....

dirty filthy rat. how did he think he was going to pull that off. "everything is dirty, now it's clean"...yeah. wow, we sure know who's got the brains in the family!

i was overcome with his wit.

anyways, to comment on some of the above, i would be over-joyed if you got a DA account (i've got one and i would love to have someone new to watch!) but i understand if you computer's slow. maybe you could hook up with a friend for a joint account or something. you know, you could make one and then have someone else upload them for you :)

sorry someone stole your art. that's a bummer. but it's good to know you've got so many faithful fans to stick up for you!

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I kind of liked that caption, at least for its sheer absurdity.

[identity profile] dimgwrthien714.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Totally got a bite out from me. I can't believe why people do that.... (Well, I wouldn't mind if my art was stolen because it would mean I'm good enough to be ripped off. Haha. My lame ass avatar gives you a clue of my lack of skills.) Good luck beating off the rest of the millions of stealers.

*holds hand over heart* I pledge to bite out all stealers.

[identity profile] wicked-warrior.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Reported violation in each of your pictures. There's nothing I can hate more than someone who steals art and claims it as his. I 'm sorry it happened to you.

Oh, come now, I hardly think I'm comparable to Michaelangelo or Van Gogh.

The reason the thiefs don't post the 'better' ones (I can't see it, so have nothing to go on) is because they hope not enough people have seen it to recognise it. Bloody tossers.

[identity profile] octaveleap.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)

i havent seen any new artsies from you for a while.. i hope ur not gonna give up HP fanart? *meep*

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-10-29 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm doing as much HP fanart now as I have been for the last four years (Azkaban project excepted). Which is to say ... not terribly much. But occasionally something will come up. Once in a while. If you're having problems with this, you should contact JK Rowling (or possibly her editors) and somehow use your influence to encourage the writing of books that trigger my visual imagination as much as the first three did. Frankly, I am really not interested in snogging. I am also cranky, so take my words with ... well, a few molecules of salt, anyway.
