Go to paulkidby.com and scroll down ... on the right-hand side there's a pencil drawing of an older lady with 'Coming Soon' underneath. Could this mean the cover for Making Money? It was about this time last year that I noticed the cover for Thud! on this same site. Is that Vetinari's aunt, I wonder? Or ... who? Am I reading way too much into it?

The alternate text on the image says "Mrs. Palm", which is spiffy, 'cause the Seamstresses are a pretty interesting bunch. :D

Who can resist the Angry Peach?

(My friend used to work at an outdoor market, and they foolishly let her design signs like this for samples. :D)

As long as it has any connection to the possibility of more Moist, I like it. Also Paul Kidby is awesome. So I like it for that too.

That does look vaguely like Vetinari! I'd never have thought of it if you hadn't pointed it out, though.

The sketch appeared in The Watch Diary, identified as "Mrs. Rosie Palm". Which means its actually a pretty old sketch. I agree that it could be for Seamstress Guild diary (WOO!-and don't take that the wrong way, I'm mostly a straight little girl), or possibly have something to do with Making Money- after all, it's easier to take a street client if your purse is full of paper money, rather than heavy coinage- and easier to slip into a garter too. Why I've thought of this, don't ask me.

Hmm... I am not so familiar with Mr. Kidby's site though I love his artwork and wish we get more here in the USA. I cannot wait for "Making Money" come out, and hopefully there will be some of the interesting characters from Going Postal in there like the guy from Near Überwald who looks like everyone else and the 100 pack a day smoking abolitionist, feral children raised by peas and holistic health addicts, plus assorted fat cats, golems, guard dogs and mad mustangs.

Sadly, though, living in the USA whatever the cover looks like we will not get to see it. :-( I only see the Kidby covers when I go to bookstores in Scandinavia. Generally the USA covers are pretty good- they are colorful and have the look of Karl Hiaasen novels to encourage people who are not fond of sci fi and fantasy to read Discworld novels. But Kidby's stuff is so funny because he puts a lot of popular culture into his pictures. Such as using Rembrandt's "Nightwatch" for, well, "Nightwatch", the famous Rosenthal news image "Raising the Flag at Iwo Jima" (World War II) for Monstrous Regiment and the Hildebrandt brothers 1970s theatre poster for "Star Wars: A New Hope" for "Going Postal"

My first thought was Vetinari's aunt, too, but they're right, it says Mrs Palm.

Hmmmm....

If it would be the prospect of a Seamstresses Diary, now that would be interesting, indeed. Or perhaps Mrs Palm takes an interest in stamps? Or in paper money, like [livejournal.com profile] jesidres suggests?
