The second trailer for Nocturna, which I've been waiting for since seeing the first one about five years ago. Apparently it's actually coming out this year. I'll believe that when I see it.

Their next project ... looks kind of Iron Gianty but more about the 'giant' than what happens around it.

Pretty demo reel. Preeettyyyy.

Another pretty demo reel, though this guy really likes his girls, and some of them may be a bit too undressed for the more sensitive viewers.

EEEE!!!!

Both "Nocturna" and "Mr. Collieu" look absolutely STUNNING.... I love the character designs so much. Now, is this the same guy who did Triplets of Belleville? I don't know any animator's names, but the style looks kinda similar.

These seriously look good. I am all in favor of bringing back hand-drawn animation.

I might have to suggest that I come up and see Nocturna with you one weekend. Would you be cool with that? :) (Because I know I would enjoy it 50x more if I also had your commentary.)

HOLY COW IT'D BE AWESOME IF YOU CAME UP HERE!!

(breathe, breathe...)

Though by the time it comes out ... I might be down there ... we shall see what the fates have in store. I'd love to show you my fine city someday regardless of fickle fortune and job situations.

I don't think it's the same designer ... They're both very European-looking but this guy's got a much fresher, lighthearted style than the Triplets guy, who is a fantastically competent designer in his own right but rather more at the grotesque end of the scale. I don't know any names either, so I might be entirely wrong.

This is all so.. wow. I've been having a gross day, drawing and redrawing the same pair of pants for 4 hours. The pretty animation cheered me up greatly.Kay Thanks -some random person you don't know.

Strange... I took a closer look at the teaser you posted a link to, and seems the people working on it are Spanish! ( Weird, because Spain doesn't have the best animation studios/style of Europe, and this looked so very good!)

Yup, Spanish they are, and Spanish is the studio ... they're the same studio that did El Cid a few years ago, which was supposed to be released in the States but I never heard about it. I don't know what city the studio's in. If you look up some of their stuff on YouTube they've got trailers in Catalan as well.

Not released in the states yet? It's been on DVD for a couple of years now :P
Didn't like El Cid too much, may it was because they re-touched the facts too much, or maybe it was the arm's size :S

El Cid must've been released in the States somehow because my DVD has an English language track (American English, from what I remember) as well as the original Spanish one. I can't seem to find it on Amazon, though, maybe it only had a limited release or something.

I've been looking forward to Nocturna ever since first hearing about it, too. It's about damn time they start bringing it out.

Maybe they recorded the English track because they were planning to release it Stateside, and then they didn't ... who knows? I bet the DVD is just in the European region code.

I think I remember hearing something about it being too politically sensitive or something (omg msulims!!!1) ... dunno if that was official or just someone theorizing. It makes sense, though. It's on IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0315000/), which Nocturna isn't, but it doesn't have a US rating. I love the plot summary, though. Oh, the character design...

Don't know about the muslims, it could be one reason, I suppose. Another might be that they thought it wouldn't quite find an audience there. I bought the movie solely because I missed pretty traditional animation, but frankly I thought the film was boring. Too melodramatic and heavy-handed for kids to follow yet they had a useless animal sidekick put in which adults don't care for. I think they were being slightly too ambitious. I really hope Nocturna will be better, as I like some of the character designs and there seem to be some original ideas in it.

Comming back to this post to announce that Nocturna has been released at Spain about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I haven't had time to go and see it, but it looks really good. Though reviews aren't nice, they say it's a bad version of "Spirited Away" รก l'Espagnole :S I'll have to see it first before believing anything the critics say.
