I was really only there for about 24 hours but it was fun... less movie stuff this time but it seems like there was better art, and more of it.
This pretty much sums up the Con, though it might be more accurate if there was also a slightly overweight woman in a metal bikini somewhere in the background... Someday I will wear a costume, because if there's anywhere that appreciates craftsmanship and attention to accuracy in a costume, it's with a bunch of obsessive nerds like me. I just have to pick something that's not a mental image of a character from a book...
I spent most of my time there hanging out with my friends from Canada who were all connected in some way or another with Flight, so I got to interlope on their space and soak in the ambient coolness.
It's the ... the thing! From The Golden Compass! They also had some of the costumes there but I feel like every other week this summer has been spent taking pictures of costumes which never turn out well, and they're going to be in the movie anyway.
There's a film online regarding Weta's line of steampunk rayguns (which I don't believe are connected to any film but are awesome anyway) ... this is a cutaway diagram of one with amusing text.
... it's real. There were people playing the game. Anything 4Kids does that ends up popular is, to me, proof of the Power of Marketing.
SO COOL. This is what I've been trying to do for six years, dangit.
Also very cool, tied into the Weta raygun thing. The caption read something like 'Dr Grordbort and the Moon Mistress vanquish the godless hordes of Venus.'
