Occupational Hazard
Mar. 31st, 2005 08:43 amReading in the bus is great (provided it's not on a twisty mountain road) but it does have its price – because you may arrive at your destination at a particularly engrossing part of the story and have to yank yourself out of it to much discomfort. Currently, THE POST OFFICE IS ON FIRE! AAAAAA!!! And I'll have to wait to lunch for it to get put out!

Whew. It's out. That was a close one.

So yesterday... I was listening to Reaper Man on the tape that actually did come in to the library. Then I went to choir, where we sang a song whose refrain goes:
Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow.
While this is obviously supposed to be a song about a young person leaving the farm to seek their fortune in a more cosmopolitan setting, when taken in the context of Reaper Man (in which Death becomes a hired hand on a farm, leaves for various reasons one of which being that he is Death, and also returns) it is now going to be a challenge to sing it with a straight face at the two concerts this weekend. It's probably too much to hope ... I shall try my best to keep it to a big goofy grin and not actually crack up onstage.

Is it wrong to be reading a book and simultaneously squirming on the edge of your seat (usually in a metaphorical sense) waiting for the library to actually receive the audio version of it? I swear they've had the darn thing "On Order" for five months now.

Peas are known for their thoroughness.
