Work Party (not an oxymoron)
Dec. 8th, 2006 07:50 pmLast night was the studio Christmas party, which, as always, was held on a Thursday, and at a nightclub ... Yes, it was fun; there were good friends and crazy drunk animators and a platter of prawns with cocktail sauce that was left completely undefended (fools!). There was also really loud music. They'd asked for us to request songs when we RSVP'd so I asked for 'Scream and Run Away,' 'The Legionnaire's Lament,' and 'The Mariner's Revenge Song' in the dim hope that if I was to be bombarded by sound at least it would be sound I liked and, as a side benefit, would make everyone else go 'huh?' but alas ... the DJs didn't have any of the above. Or at least that's what they said. As it was, the pounding beat of whatever it was they were playing eventually concussed me into that comfortable numbness only ever found at extremely loud studio Christmas parties, which reminded me of a picture I'd drawn after last year's Christmas party, which I finally post today:

The second thumbnail there is the back of my invitation, upon which I sketched various partiers (with a couple contributions from a friend, which I'll white out if he objects to their publication). I kept trying to capture the French lady with the wonderful face but she never turned out ... The guy with the hat, however, seriously needs to model for some costumed life drawing. And I wish I'd had more room for the guy playing bottle guitar but by the time he took the stage the page was nearly full... Drawing with pen on glossy paper is really nice.
