Yesterday's Sketchbook - Look! I drew a pretty girl! LOOK! She's PRETTY! Tawneee again, and Nobby without any reference because I was in bed and couldn't be bothered.

Today's Sketchbook - Trying to make Angua pretty, because ... well, she's supposed to be. In theory. To be canon. (Shut up about the hair, I know.) Also I thought maybe Undecided Adrian should be a bit chubby because nether of the others really are (Sane Alex is, kinda, but you can't really tell with that beard) and then a guy walked into the library café who looked just like him. Unfortunatey he sat too close to draw him directly without him noticing so I did my best from memory when he left.

For those of you who may have missed it in the comments section of the previous post...

TEALIN'S NOTES ON SCANNING
Q. How do you scan your pictures? The pencil lines come out all nice. Mine, when I scan at home, always look all pixally no matter what I do.
A. It depends on the scanner, of course ... some scanners are just awful. Older ones can sometimes look dotty or pixelly. Also, scan it at at least 72 dpi. If you're planning to print something, scan it much higher-res. Check to see if your scanner has different settings for text, b/w image, b/w photo, colour photo, etc. Pick 'colour photo' or whatever setting is closest to that, i.e. the highest. I greyscale my scans after scanning them in colour because I find the colour setting on most scanners picks up detail better than the b/w. Greyscaling (a.k.a. 'desaturating' or 'making it black and white') turns my blue lines into grey ones, which makes the black graphite stand out more and makes further manipulations look better. I then play with the brightness/contrast in Photoshop* to make the white actually white and make the lines a bit darker – compare the images on my site or in the previous post to my sketchbook pages which I don't modify in any way (except greyscaling them sometimes).
*I can expand on this if anyone wants it...
