About the time I started on WordWorld was when I was introduced to Radio 4 (thank you Tony, thank you thank you). I believe they had The News Quiz and Old Harry's Game running at the same time (not literally, but ... both series were current ... you know what I mean) so Andy Hamilton was one of the first people I got to recognize by voice. I had no clue what he looked like so I tried designing what I thought someone who had that voice would look like. This isn't quite what I had in mind but it was the closest I got. Of course now with the fancy newfangled iPlayer you get a great big photo of whoever's talking, which has kind of taken the fun out of things. Actually it's really taken the fun out of things – I liked having my own cast of characters in my head, or just to leave certain voices (like Eddie Mair) abstract. I'm glad I've never seen Brian Perkins or Clement Freud.

You know what was really weird, was when I was watching Mirrormask ... Andy Hamilton has a bit part in that and as soon as his voice came out of the television speakers it was like I was hearing it in my headphones and it went and set off my Radio 4 dopamine receptors or whatever it is that makes you feel all homey and comfortable. BIZARRE. I am so seriously procrastinating right now you would not believe. Back to work!
