Catchin' Up With the Ladies
Apr. 29th, 2012 12:44 pmI know I said 'mid-April,' but does the 29th count as the middle? I mean it's not actually the actual end ...

1. I caught a radio play the day before it expired off the iPlayer so unfortunately I can't share it with you, but it was a really exciting and well-plotted heist story about a casual thief being employed to steal the Koh-i-Noor diamond from the Great Exhibition in 1851. The thief's girlfriend(?) was an equally crafty and competent accomplice and an entertaining character in her own right. (I had not previously made the connection between the diamond and the brand of pencils – this now amuses me greatly. Carbon! It's versatile!)
2. One of the benefits of travelling in the off season is you get to see winter fashions that never really make it to LA. This seemed to have been the 'look' on my most recent trip: double-breasted wool coat, black tights, and brown shoes. (I assume there is a miniskirt or something in there somewhere...) It is amusing to see designers in my generation come into their own, because I can wonder at their influences: for instance, are those actually Quasimodo's shoes?
3. I dunno, I was in a meeting and feeling vaguely Victorian and/or anxious to get out ...
4. I only got the idea that this might be a female riff on Michelangelo's David after I'd laid out the pose, but I don't care for the pose of his David anyway. Seriously, why is his so famous when there is this one as an alternative?
