I've been listening to a lot of radio this week but with insufficient enthusiasm to stuff a post full of links – dunno if it's me or the radio but I suspect the former.

When I first started listening to Radio 4, the first series of Armando Iannucci's Charm Offensive was running. Now it's become a sort of time capsule of that place and time. This episode has to be a classic; it's got marketing for ducks, the Archbishop of Canterbury's dirigible, a list of the best things ever, David Mitchell before he was on every panel show ever, and the line I hear in my head whenever I see PepsiMax. It expires Friday so give it a listen while you can.

I link to The Door in the Wall every time it comes around because it's one of a handful of stories I can point to which changed the way I live my life; perhaps it would be wise of me to pay closer attention to the end of the story, but on the other hand the end might not be what it is if the middle had played out differently, which is the point of the thing, I think.

Front Row is one of the few Radio 4 shows lucky enough not to expire, so you can listen to the short but insightful review of Oz the Great and Powerful from last Monday, which is conveniently at the beginning of the episode (1:20 - 6:26 on the timeline). I haven't seen the film myself, but the presenters here land on a very intriguing interpretation of the message, which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else, and which bears consideration ...
