"Well it's a nice room."

I wasn't intending to do a fully-rendered colour piece, but if I left it in line you wouldn't be able to tell they were in an elevator, and as soon as I dropped in the marble texture it demanded more than just a values wash ... so now it's 1:10 am, but I have something I like.

I had decided I wanted to buck expectations with my depiction of Hester Macauley, but listening to her voice, she simply had to be bony, have long straight blonde hair, and a wide mouth with narrow lips; there was no getting around it. Next time!

Really looking forward to Douz ... but now, sleep.

"I don’t
have any money."

I've been wanting to do this illustration since the spring – flat colours and all. Nice to get it out, finally, though I keep going back and fiddling with things. It doesn't look hot enough. I wanted to get that feeling of a layover in Las Vegas. (Ugh.)

"Douz" I've always considered to be the episode where the show really finds its groove, so it was nice to hear the same from John Finnemore in his blog post on it. This scene, I think, is one of those 'phase change' moments when the show rises a level, and in this case kicks off a more emotional involvement in what had been more or less simply comedic. And it only gets better!

EDIT 6 Dec: I fiddled again, desaturated the blues and cropped in slightly, so I think this is it. I wanted less saturated blues from the start but am trying to be less afraid of colour so fought down my instincts ... so much for that.
