There's only been one period in my life when I've actually run out of things to listen to on the BBC. I was getting close to keeping up with it now, but then listened to "The Goliath Window" about half a dozen times and got behind again. (It just keeps getting better. See below.)

It's a drama week this week:

DRAMA
Slipstream - Espionage, commandos, and a Nazi flying saucer, from that master of the radio thriller Simon Bovey. He always makes sure there are good parts for the ladies, too, which I much appreciate.
Sea Wolf - dramatisation of the book by Jack London. A San Francisco literary critic gets shipwrecked and picked up by a nihilistic Danish sealer. Good fun survival story with a side line in how one's choice of philosophy affects one's life and society.
Sparkling Cyanide - Agatha Christia murder mystery in three parts. Spoiler: I killed Rosemary. (You'll have to listen to see if I'm lying.)
Warhorses of Letters - If you pitched 'A gay romance between the horses of Napoleon and Wellington as told through their correspondence' to any other media outlet, they'd say 'very funny, what's your real idea?' But this is BBC Radio 4 (92-95FM, 198 LW, DAB radio, and online).
The Man in the Lift - Lovely drama about the power of reaching out to people, told through the interwoven lives in a block of flats as touched by the man sent to upgrade the lift.
John Finnemore's Double Acts continues to spoil its listeners for radio riches. Since last update we've had The Goliath Window, in which a naked sailor pays a visit to a country vicar, and English for Pony Lovers which explores the unifying power of fanfiction (among other things).

DOCUMENTARY
Noise: A Human History - Social history thorough the ephemeral medium of sound. This episode is about 'foreign' sound as perceived by colonists; I kinda wish there were more ethnographic recordings but it's interesting anyway.
The Invention of France - this series looks at the history of France through significant individuals, first Joan of Arc (who almost certainly didn't wear what she's wearing in the iPlayer image), and now Maximilien Robespierre. It was interesting when I was compiling the list, and now very timely.
The Flea - Did you know flea circuses actually had fleas in them? And that human fleas and cat fleas prefer different environments? And that the flea was used as a sexual metaphor?
Raising the Bar: Othello - Lenny Henry's exploration of the history of black British theatre and film. The whole series is worth a listen, but as Othello is one of my favourite plays and Mr Henry is my favourite Othello, this episode was of particular interest to me.
One to One - David Schneider confronts his fear of death by learning about it.

COMEDY
The Pin - New sketch comedy. Good running-time-to-smile investment. We all need a bit of that.

Wow, seriously Tealin, one comedy? Well I know what I'll be catching up on next week ...
