Dancing with A.C.-G.
Mar. 8th, 2016 08:19 pmApsley Cherry-Gerard! Ben Saunders (polar adventurer) has picked YOUR book above all others for his hypothetical desert island! How do you feel about that?

I've finally finished Stephen Gwynn's biography* of Scott, and have decided to reread Cherry's biography for the first time since 2009. We could not have more different backgrounds, and barely have a handful of things in common, but at times, in a most unsettling way, it's like staring into a full flowering of the inner faults I've struggled for years to hide or overcome. I keep my current book in my bag so I can nibble away at it whenever I find (or make) a moment; given the current subject matter it's a bit like dragging a truculent four-year-old out on errands.

There but for the grace of a good smack go I.
*Really a collection of deeply human letters, loosely held together with hagiography
