GOP Gospel: The Sabbath II

A reading from the Gospel according to the GOP:
Republicans aren't nearly as preoccupied with the sabbath as they used to be, presumably because The Economy. But as far as a pragmatic, spirit-of-the-law approach to clear-cut Biblical strictures, rather than the black-and-white Checklist of Righteousness, observance of the sabbath here can conceivably stand in for any number of things. They are still super into their persecution complex, though, so that stays.

He left that place and entered their synagogue; a man was there with a withered hand, and they asked him, "Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath?" so that they might accuse him. He said to them, "The Lord God commanded that man rest on the sabbath, but man cannot cure; only God cures. If this man prays with fervent faith that his hand be cured, and it is cured, then God has done it, and who are we to question whether God is allowed to cure on the sabbath?" So he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand, and pray for it to be cured." He stretched it out, and it was restored, as sound as the other. Nevertheless the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.( Matthew 12:9-14 )
