Since it's the equivalent of 1:14 AM and I have to be up by 8 tomorrow morning, I thought the best use of my time would be to transcribe the lyrics of "Homeward Bound." Feel free to skip them if you haven't read Reaper Man (as long as you spend your extra bit of time in going to the library and checking it out).
HOMEWARD BOUND
by Marta Keen
In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing
And the sky is clear and red.
When the summer's ceased its gleaming,
When the corn is past its prime,
When adventure's lost its meaning,
I'll be homeward bound in time.
Chorus:
Bind me not to the pasture;
Chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow.
If you find it's me you're missing,
If you're hoping I'll return,
To your thoughts I'll soon be listening
In the road I'll stop and turn.
Then the wind will set me racing
As my journey nears its end,
And the path I'll be retracing
When I'm homeward bound again.
[Chorus]
In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed
When the sparrows stop their singing,
I'll be homeward bound again.
Really, the only specific words that need changing are the ones referring to morning because the end of the book is evening... "In the quiet misty evening when the sun has gone to bed" works just as well. I'm tellin' ya... if Reaper Man was ever made into a movie, this should be the song on the credits! It has more than the usual amount of relevance to the actual story and it could have a Top 40 love ballad pop rendition by Celine Dion and Josh Groban or something.
Oh my feet. Three hours of standing is a lot. And to do it again tomorrow (well... today...) ayah.
