other Hamlet I see or hear, now, is just wrong. Which is a shame as this
may be my favourite play and I may not be able to enjoy it ever again, but
I wouldn't give up having seen this* production for the world; it blew my
mind and made me properly fall in love with Shakespeare (or with what
Shakespeare can be...)
*This clip is off a DVD recorded a couple years before the production I
saw; some things got further refined or reinterpreted in the meantime ('To
be or not to be...' for example) and the DVD hacks the play down to 70-odd
minutes and shoots it abominably, but it's some small record of the
amazingness of that Hamlet and some of the cast. Sigh ...
