And now, the journey back.

The Mojave - This picture basically sums up the entire stretch of highway between San Bernardino and St George. Except for the funny white thing. Anyone know what that is? My best guess is that it's some sort of weather radar station, but ... what do I know?
Virgin River Gorge - I'd just finished my second consecutive spring of drawing rocks, rocks, rocks ... and yet I took pictures of them. I must be mad.
More Gorge - Is this a Dragons layout? Why, yes, it does look familiar... Please excuse the very theatrical effects of the windshield.
A Warning - I love this sign. There's on on either end of the gorge. I know what it's supposed to mean, but ... well, duh.
Southern Wasatch - Utah, showing off again.

That white thingy

It is a radio beacon for a runway. I guess models need them to find their way around. Oh wait, not THAT kind a runway, an AIRCRAFT runway. You see the same thing in between Burley and Boise right by the freeway.

Utah, looks like around Cedar City or higher

Yup, Utah does tend to show off a bit. Here's some scope for the imagination, up a little higher, in the bare desolation of Eastern Utah (where my ol' granpappy mined coal in Price, UT, near Manti, one of the most popular places to get married for young, religious Utahns, my brother being one of them) is Bryce Canyon, home of the famous Goblin Valley. It's incredible.

Ohio's not so bad but its not Utah, where I spent the first 23 years of my life. Ah, home, Great Basin desert and salt flats.

BTW, I'm not some random stalker who just chose to post a comment in your journal, I'm actually a big fan of your art and have been since about 2001, when I read HP, I like your other art as well, Discworld, LOTR, etc. Actually, I think you got me reading Discworld and Pratchett out of curiousity, and I passed the madness to my husband, and showed me the way to the glory of "The Iron Giant". So, I'm grateful y'see. Name's Aly but, anyway. Hope you enjoyed your trip through my quirky little home state.

Oh, Utah. Amongst the uglier states, I think it is. But that may be just because I live there. Nice pictures!

Yes, I remember those, and in eastern Washington... Another mystery of life, solved.
