That's My Cow!

Finished.

I am now thoroughly Thud!ified.

Evidently, the secret to peace in the Middle East is board games. (are board games?)

Carrot on a Mission

Carrot goes in search of Angua, in The Fifth Elephant. I know absolutely nothing about horse riding and that's why the pictuer is cropped where it is. Gaspode is too darn cute and clean-looking. And I wish I'd had my previous drawing of Carrot for reference because he just doesn't look right here.
CoinConina

Coin the Sourcerer and Conina, barbarian hairdresser, from Sourcery. Coin looks like Blakeney because ... well, he does. Conina I need to colour for the full effect. No, there are no blood splatters, but she's striking in a colourful way. (Figuratively.)

If these pictures are really huge, please notify me in some way ... my monitor is set to a really high resolution and it's hard to judge what size they are on a normal screen.

I think I am getting carried away. It sure was funny at half-past midnight...

*Dies from over-squeeing, and gets odd looks from her bosses.* Gaspode's just been in the snow too much- kinda like a bath for a dog that small.*

Didja like Thud? And yes, we just need to sit everyone down for a boardgame, preferable without sharp pointy pieces, and we might survive. Of course, as soon as the game finished, they're would be a fight over the rules or the method of winning, leading to yet another war....

Moooooooooo.

It's really only the hair and mouth that makes him look like Blakeney. Blakeney has a shorter face and I don't think round eyes would look right on him.

I have a question of more practical nature: before you scan your drawings, do you use a special kind of black pencil to trace over them, or do you just have a really good scanner? My scanner won't "do" pencil sketches.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Good scanner. It helps to fiddle with scanner settings (if it's set to scan text, for example, pencil drawings will look terrible), and of course you can play with the brightness/contrast in whatever graphics program you may use.

[identity profile] jesidres.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Try fiddling with the "levels" in your scanning program, if it lets you. That often helps. Most scaaner nowadays are much better about picking up pencil markings- even the cheap Canons, that run about 60-70 bucks, will be more than adequate. Just my two cents.

Although Tealin's art is so good it's hard to believe there isn't a wirefram under them. To get this look, I have to use a non-photographic pencil first. *jealous*

I really like Conina's hair for some reason. I think it may be twanging a string in my subconscience or something. And Coin's staff is pretty cool. I think Coin looks more like a hobbit with than Blakeney though. (ponders whether this is a bad thing or not)

There's actually a small project that's going on with some artsy Pratchett fans, making a database of the pages of Where's My Daddy Sam didn't get to before Sybil walked in. Or, we will, as soon I finish coding the damned thing. Hehe.

And now that you've finished Thud, I get to hide spoilerific silly messages in my comments. Such as after reading pg. 290, I got a horrid image of Super!Carrot. (Hint: Magicked cart over head).

Where's my cow?

[identity profile] ianfinerty.livejournal.com 2005-10-14 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I bought my copy of Thud! off of Amazon and so got a deal and bought where's my cow as well!
It has Foul Ole Ron, Detritus, the Patrician and more! (not including some rather interestingly placed animals)
From now on the fun never stops in my household.

"If you lose your cow you should reprt this to the Watch under the Domestic & Farmyard Animals (Lost) Act of 1809. They will swing into action with keeness and speed. Your cow will be found. If it has been impersonating other animals, it may be arrested. If you are a stupid person, do not look for your cow yourself. Never try to milk a chicken. It hardly ever works."

I like those verses.

[identity profile] gabbysun.livejournal.com 2005-10-17 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, Gaspode looks so . . . wholesome.

Dang, Conina is really, really pretty, and I love Coin just on principal; his eyes and curls combined make for some chilling imagery. :O

[identity profile] gabbysun.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I looked up part of Where's My Cow? while at a bookstore and committed a passage to memory just for you:

Where's my daddy?
Is this my daddy?
It goes 'Don't let me detain you.'
It is the Patrician! He rules the city!
Really don't let him detain you!
That's not my daddy!

. . . at least I hope that's right. :D

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHA!! I must put that on my desk somewhere...

[identity profile] gabbysun.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
xD Are you planning on reading the book?

(In the picture, Vetinari looks a little like a wet rat, but Pterry's writing really makes up for it.)

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes ... it just hasn't been released up here yet (to the best of my knowledge) and I plan on just leafing through it at a bookstore or something If it were illustrated by Paul Kidby I'd buy it, or if its rereading potential turns out to be exceptionally high...

[identity profile] gabbysun.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The illustrator really isn't as good as Paul Kidby; the coloring itself looks funny too. But it's pretty charming. Leafing is recommended!

I'm not sure about its rereading potential— reading Thud! is probably a better way to get the full impact of Where's My Cow?.

[identity profile] twirlynoodle.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
After all, how can it compete with 'THAT! IS!! NOT!!! MY!!!! COW!!!!!'?

[identity profile] gabbysun.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Only Terry Pratchett could make five ridiculous-sounding words with dubious punctuation strung into a even more ridiculous-sounding phrase give you chills.

It goes 'AAAARGH!'

Hahahahaha!

Oooo, good Coin with the frightening eyes.... heh, almost as frightening as Carrot's. In fact, that's an excellent Carrot -- completely unreadable. Way to go!
