Happy Halloween, everybody! I hope you're all dressed up and not a bunch of party-poopers...

And now, for something completely different:
I happened to find the recording of A Short History of Progress (or more specifically, the 2004 Massey Lectures; it's not exactly an audio book) for a sensible price on Ebay last week. Shortly before, I'd put myself on the waiting list for it at the library.
Some statistics:
· It usually takes 10 business days for an international PayPal payment to clear
· A parcel shipping from the US to Canada will take a week and a half to arrive, on average
· I am 21st on the library's wait list
· The library has seven copies
· The checkout period is three weeks*

Now it is a race! Which will get in first? Which will be the speedier system? GO GO GO!!

BBC Quote of the Day:
'... Like a rich chocolate mousse coating the inside of your ears.'

3:47 pm – The Giddy Fangirl Comes Out
I've just listened to a program about NPR from the BBC (is that NPR on the BBC or BBC on NPR?). NPR = LOVE! They played the All Things Considered theme song and squeee! Oh, sweet public radio, how long I have forsaken you...

*If I were a mathematical genius, I could probably figure out some sort of formula using those last three items to determine when mine would arrive, but it would depend on everyone turning their copy in on the due date, which just doesn't happen. (It is entirely possible that I am clinging to this variable as consolation for my lack of mathematical prowess.)

I went to see "a short history of progress" lectures when Wright originally said them at my campus. I didn't know what it was until after I wandered out... DEFINATELY worth the buy!

No kidding! Everyone – everyone – must read the book or listen to the lectures or something! You're so lucky to have seen him live!

As much as I appreciate the request for permission, this is really the sort of thing that ought to be an email.

Of course I disguised myself! I went as Elphaba from Wicked. [cringes in expectation of a bananabasket-glomping]

Hi I saw your Tealin's Harry Potter Art and tried to check it out but all it had for the pictures is that your photobucket is over bandwidth. Just thought I'd let you know. I would really like to check out your art

and yet, 20 people are waiting for it, each read it for 3 weeks. 20x3=60, but there are 7, so 60/7 equals...around 8.6, ud be waiting over 2 months. :D
