HAHAH! This is hilarious. Almost a week ago my sister and I were joking about renaming Danishes, and here, they've gone and done it!

I prefer our name, though ... 'Infidel Pastries' has such a better ring to it.

If, as quoted by Ronald Wright, 'Every time history repeats itself the price goes up,' would these be very expensive confections?

Random Girard quote!

From the Ideas series:
The fact that rivals often grow more alike with every new attempt to be different often causes them to intensify their conflict. But the more frantic the search for stable differences becomes, Girard says, the more aimless and undifferentiated the conflict actually grows. "Everything is symmetrical on both sides, the desire is absolutely the same. But the rivals have to think their relationship in terms of difference, and they do their best to differ from each other. And they cannot do it – because as soon as someone invents something to move differently, to be different from his opponent, the other does it too." Once conflict is underway, Girard says, it will tend to produce sameness on all sides. A single, inexorable logic will finally reduce everything to the same terms, while, at the same time, producing a phantasmagoria of apparent differences. The more alike the enemy becomes, the more different he will seem.

Do you think this has something to do with the human tendency to project one's worst qualities and failings on their enemy, while being completely blind to those traits in themselves?

Could be ... could very well be. I'm sure there is a Giriardian interpretation of that tendency but I am not well-versed enough to provide an example.
