Friday Friday Friday

Thursday's Sketchbook - This is what yesterday's character is supposed to look like.

Watched War of the Worlds last night ... Most of it went like this:

ME: But dude, what about _____?
SPIELBERG: Hey, man, I have totally got that covered.

I would have liked to know more about the blood root things, which as far as I could tell were creepy but pointless. And ... were the tripod thingies alive, or machines? 'Cause if they were machines, how would they be affected by pathogens? Also: crows rule.

Hi... random lurker...

I think that the aliens were alive inside the tripod thingies- at the end i think it show one kind of falling out? I 'm not sure though- i've only seen it once and it was awhile ago...

I was asking myself that about the machines. But if one thing, they did creep the hell out of me. Very much like something out of my nightmares.

In the original book, which was written in about 1898 I think, the aliens are martians and the blood roots (Red Weed) are either a side effect of them taking over Earth or something to make it resemble Mars closer, I can't remember which one is correct. I've only read a bit of the book, but I used to be really into the Jeff Wayne musical and the story itself, so I did a lot of fan research stuff.

The tripods are machines built by the aliens to be like extensions of them selves, because in the book they look really different, they're really slow and clumsy and so they built the tripods the be stronger, faster and pretty much invincible. I think in the story the aliens themselves fall victim to the common cold, and that causes them to die inside the tripods and crash, as they had been drinking our blood and thus caught it that way.

I only know the old black-and-white movie (which is cute) and in it the machines/tripods were some kind of space suits (cause they couldn't stand our atmosphere pressure or air or something) combined with being a vehicle for the martians to roam about in.

Haven't seen the new one, yet. Also, I don't think I'm all that interested. Is it worth a look?

I love your angry character. I love his pose. I love his feet. I love his floppy hair. I still want to know his backstory. His name would be nice too.

Hmm, he must be a good climber. I like his feet, for some reason. They look like feet, which is a surprisingly difficult thing to achieve.

I have long known that the only thing with aliens in it that I like is Doctor Who.

I'm afraid I'm already in trouble with you, but being the fearless idiot I am, I gotta say it...your character - particularly this drawing of him - made me think of you right away! (I know you're not an angry person - I can't explain it - something about the hair and the face...they say an artist can't help drawing thmeselves every time, in some way) Ok, I'm braced for the indignant/scornful rhetorts...
Also, were there crows in War of the Worlds? It's been too long since I saw it. Maybe I will write more of my impressions of that movie later, here or elsewhere (but now I must move my car from last night before Disney security tickets it!)
