Thursday's Sketchbook - This is what yesterday's character is supposed to look like.

Watched War of the Worlds last night ... Most of it went like this:

ME: But dude, what about _____?
SPIELBERG: Hey, man, I have totally got that covered.

I would have liked to know more about the blood root things, which as far as I could tell were creepy but pointless. And ... were the tripod thingies alive, or machines? 'Cause if they were machines, how would they be affected by pathogens? Also: crows rule.

It's pretty spectacular, visually, and the script is solid (if a little episodic) – that shouldn't make it 'special' but considering that there is an inverse relation between special effects and writing quality these days, and with how many effects it has, it was a pleasant surprise.
