Friday Friday Friday
Thursday's Sketchbook - This is what yesterday's character is supposed to look like.
Watched War of the Worlds last night ... Most of it went like this:
ME: But dude, what about _____?
SPIELBERG: Hey, man, I have totally got that covered.
I would have liked to know more about the blood root things, which as far as I could tell were creepy but pointless. And ... were the tripod thingies alive, or machines? 'Cause if they were machines, how would they be affected by pathogens? Also: crows rule.

I think that the aliens were alive inside the tripod thingies- at the end i think it show one kind of falling out? I 'm not sure though- i've only seen it once and it was awhile ago...

Alien were alive inside the tripod thingies. What happened was the aliens died, and the machines fell over and...rusted, or something.
yay rapid oxidation?

Or, maybe it's like a car, where the headlights (shields) will work if the car is turned off, but once the battery dies, you're SOL. Perhaps the 'pods have really (really) bad batteries? (They shoulda gone with energizer, obviously)

The tripods are machines built by the aliens to be like extensions of them selves, because in the book they look really different, they're really slow and clumsy and so they built the tripods the be stronger, faster and pretty much invincible. I think in the story the aliens themselves fall victim to the common cold, and that causes them to die inside the tripods and crash, as they had been drinking our blood and thus caught it that way.

Personally, I was happy to see the red weed in this movie, since it was cut out of the movie version that was made back in the fifties.
I think a lot of what was happening doesn't get entirely explained--in the book or the movie--because one of the points of the story is that the characters, and therefore the audience, never really know what's going on.

Haven't seen the new one, yet. Also, I don't think I'm all that interested. Is it worth a look?

I have long known that the only thing with aliens in it that I like is Doctor Who.

I have an alien phobia (even those 'documentaries' on the Discovery Channel creep me out) but this movie didn't get to me at all... Signs is still the best ever.

Also, were there crows in War of the Worlds? It's been too long since I saw it. Maybe I will write more of my impressions of that movie later, here or elsewhere (but now I must move my car from last night before Disney security tickets it!)
