A big, resounding HAH

I'm a legionnaire
Camel in disrepair
hoping for a frigid air
to come passing by...
Some people claim I am bright but this is evidence of my overwhelming cluelessness: I actually thought it was Frigidaire. I didn't just mishear it, I thought it was intentionally written that way. (Heck, if I was a legionnaire stuck in the desert with a broken-down camel, I'd fantasize about a Frigidaire coming my way.) Well, at least I got a good drawing out of it.
YESTERDAY'S SKETCHBOOK
Page One - Bus people, hands, and a frolicking fridge (a staple of the previous night's life drawing session) in anticipation of the next page's drawing
Page Two - The rough version of the shaded drawing above, as well as Blouse accepting his scubbo (all tight and pretty now), my hand, and trying to figure out how Billy Liar can have his hands in his pockets and his knickers down and be staring at the neighbour's.*
For the last... ooh, I dunno, ten years or so, every time I'd travel through the floodplain of the Jordan River (not that Jordan River) and see the houses going up there, my family's car would resound with 'ARGH! Don't build in a floodplain! What are you people, stupid?' Well. I guess so, because basements are being flooded now.** Cue Nelson (not that Nelson): Haa haa!
"We have gone to the city to say 'what can you do to help us?' They said to us 'you shouldn't have built on the river.' We say then, 'why did you give us permits?'"
South Jordan replied, 'Well, we wanted the money and ... y'know ... it seemed like a laugh.' South Jordan then chuckled sheepishly.
*That apostrophe belongs there.
**This article is ... wow. I think whoever wrote it was on the staff of my high school newspaper.

None of the stores within walking distance of work has Castaways and Cutouts. [goes crying to Amazon]

Date: 2006-03-29 05:32 pm (UTC)I love the fridge. Your grandma used to sing these lyrics from My Fair Lady:
"All I want is a room somewhere
Far away from the cold night air
With one enormous frigidaire
Oh wouldn't it be loverly"

My parents live in that area--up OFF the floodplain in West Jordan--and we've thought the same thing for all the ten years we've lived there.

Date: 2006-03-29 10:43 pm (UTC)And...floodplains? I mean, come on people. Well, I suppose that's not the only stupid place people live and then act all worried when catastrophes happen that they know are going to happen. Earthquakes on the west coast, tornados in the midwest/plains area, lightning storms along the pan handle and "lightning alley", hurricanes in Florida, mudslides, avalanches, rock falls, snowstorms in the mountains. And yet people still live there. But, I suppose we have to live somewhere.
By the way, the look of pure delight on Blouse's face is faboo. He does look a bit like Dr. Doppler, but also like...well, someone else...I just need a little while to figure out who. Yay for drawin's! ^_^

Date: 2006-03-29 10:50 pm (UTC)Hey! I live almost sort-of near the Jordan River....Or Utah Lake. Luckkkkkily there's no flooding up here...yet. And a nice LOL at the Keith Barton ad that came up with that article. Holy marathon, no matter where I go, I can't seem to escape him.

Date: 2006-03-29 11:04 pm (UTC)Also, darn you Tealin for getting me addicted to a new band when I have no money to buy cds. I've had the stream from that internet open in WMP for 3 days now whenever I want to listen to the songs, and I've gotten the 3 free ones that are on the website that sells their cds. So pretty @_@... must save money from next paycheck...

Date: 2006-03-30 08:05 pm (UTC)I think their reasoning for the floodplain-building is 'Hey, it's flat! It must be good to build on!' Which again leads me to wondering why idiocy is so fashionable. I mean, really. Why is it cool to be stupid?
Because

Thus, You rarely pay the price for your stupidity.
