What's This, Drawings?

I rererediscovered* last night that drawing can be nice and theraputic.

A more developed sketch based (from memory) on the doodle I did at work yesterday. I'm a bit surprised by my sudden breakthrough on Nobby; it makes me think I'm stealing this design from somewhere. That feeling was particularly strong regarding the sketch of young (Night Watch-era) Nobbs, which felt like I was tracing it off the back off my head. Any ideas? Besides Gorillaz? That was deliberate.

Drew this after watching the first five minutes of CSI:Yellow** which starred some prototypically repulsive young women. I don't know if it's an affectation, or a side effect of the anorexia and obsessive dental whitening, but they all seemed to have their mouths set in a way that was reminiscent of an Inca mummy, which I couldn't resist mocking.

I've been rereading the first two books in the Bartimaeus Trilogy so that I can read the third which I haven't gotten around to yet but which is, apparently, very good. They don't seize my artistic mind like they do my sister's, but here's a try at Nathaniel and Simon Lovelace (who, after much effort, managed not to look like Milo). If Nathaniel looks familiar, it's because my drawing of Duncan Quagmire started out as a drawing of him (until he started looking too nice) and he also bears a startling resemblance to young Tom Riddle ... more than just visually. There's a scene where he spends the night on the street and comes back a dissheveled mess – Bartimaeus° takes on the shape of one of his former young masters to annoy Nathaniel but what would really annoy him might be the following:

*This is actually an approximation. A more accurate representation would have to be shortened to 're42discovered.'
**Actually CSI:Miami – they use a yellow filter on everything, to make it look hot I guess. Amused by my observation, my roommate (who watches a lot more TV than I do) now refers to the different CSIs by colour, like those Pokemon games from a few years ago. CSI:Blue is New York, but the original (Las Vegas) is lacking in a primary colour so we call it CSI:Brown. We tried to think of what city in the world might possibly warrant a red filter on everything, but I don't imagine they'd start up a CSI:St George ... it's too close to Las Vegas and nowhere near as interesting.
°The djinni he summoned to do his dirty work ... it's a long story. Read it, it's good. If you like, y'know, magic and stuff.

Again, you are great at different face shapes and expressions, even with cats and repulsive caricature women ^_^
*the third is very good, but has much less funny and more NATIONAL CRISES AND TRAGEDY!

Date: 2006-04-27 12:35 am (UTC)Honestly, up until now I have *never* before seen any Nobby that would fit my mental image. Which, in fact, I don't have, if you understand me. I can't picture him clearly. But when I am browsing through tons of DW art (be it Kidby, of "just" fan's), I know exactly that Nobby doesn't look like that.
Yours...... is perfect.
