I rererediscovered* last night that drawing can be nice and theraputic.

A more developed sketch based (from memory) on the doodle I did at work yesterday. I'm a bit surprised by my sudden breakthrough on Nobby; it makes me think I'm stealing this design from somewhere. That feeling was particularly strong regarding the sketch of young (Night Watch-era) Nobbs, which felt like I was tracing it off the back off my head. Any ideas? Besides Gorillaz? That was deliberate.

Drew this after watching the first five minutes of CSI:Yellow** which starred some prototypically repulsive young women. I don't know if it's an affectation, or a side effect of the anorexia and obsessive dental whitening, but they all seemed to have their mouths set in a way that was reminiscent of an Inca mummy, which I couldn't resist mocking.

I've been rereading the first two books in the Bartimaeus Trilogy so that I can read the third which I haven't gotten around to yet but which is, apparently, very good. They don't seize my artistic mind like they do my sister's, but here's a try at Nathaniel and Simon Lovelace (who, after much effort, managed not to look like Milo). If Nathaniel looks familiar, it's because my drawing of Duncan Quagmire started out as a drawing of him (until he started looking too nice) and he also bears a startling resemblance to young Tom Riddle ... more than just visually. There's a scene where he spends the night on the street and comes back a dissheveled mess – Bartimaeus° takes on the shape of one of his former young masters to annoy Nathaniel but what would really annoy him might be the following:

*This is actually an approximation. A more accurate representation would have to be shortened to 're42discovered.'
**Actually CSI:Miami – they use a yellow filter on everything, to make it look hot I guess. Amused by my observation, my roommate (who watches a lot more TV than I do) now refers to the different CSIs by colour, like those Pokemon games from a few years ago. CSI:Blue is New York, but the original (Las Vegas) is lacking in a primary colour so we call it CSI:Brown. We tried to think of what city in the world might possibly warrant a red filter on everything, but I don't imagine they'd start up a CSI:St George ... it's too close to Las Vegas and nowhere near as interesting.
°The djinni he summoned to do his dirty work ... it's a long story. Read it, it's good. If you like, y'know, magic and stuff.

Your Nobbs is wonderful ^_^ The 'sheepy' look really suits him.

I usually start with blue col-erase (which scans grey) and then go over it with something graphite; In this case I believe it was a Sanford Mirado B (the only 'mainstream' pencil brand that makes B pencils rather than HB) because that was what was at hand.

I'm loving them all, but I think my favorite is the cat. The cats at my house do that exact pose all the time! So cute.

I like the Nobbs drawings. Yours are the best I think I have seen- kind of just on the edge of being homo sapiens sapiens.

The little meep cat was cute, too. It is making me miss my little Dulcie.

Gorillaz!Nobby? Bartimaeus Trilogy fanart*?? Bartimaeus Trilogy/HP crossover fanart?????

I give you LOTS OF LOVE FOR THIS! <3 <3 <3 It's like 4 of my fav fandoms in a strange twisted collision. Weird coincidence.

Again, you are great at different face shapes and expressions, even with cats and repulsive caricature women ^_^

*the third is very good, but has much less funny and more NATIONAL CRISES AND TRAGEDY!

I'm glad to have made you so happy. Yes, I've heard lots of things about the last one (LOTS of things ... possibly too many things) because my sister read it a few month ago and has been bugging me to read it ever since. I am looking forward to the national crises; they are thoroughly engrossing. And tragedy as well.

I'm guilty of being the person who bugs my sibling to read books, so I can sympathise :D.
It's the sort of book you want to share the pain of with as many people as possible ^_^

I started the Bartemaus trilogy last summer, but I never did get to finish it. However, your drawing of Lovelace looks a lot like one of the librarians who used to work on campus with me. I know that means nothing to you, but I'd just thought I'd state it for the record. :)

PS Harry definitely looks too happy for his own good. Love it. ;)

Huh. I really like your Bartimaeus art, and I love Harry's little crossover.

Lovin' the cat, Tealin.

Wow, I was expecting my dad to be the one to come out with 'Moscow.' Metaphorical redness does not warrant a visual filter, I'm afraid.

What's so red about Honolulu?

Additionally, I really like your design for Nathaniel. The shadowed eyes work especially well. He really is rather like Tom Riddle, isn't he (funnily enough, this had never occurred to me before)?

I like the second one much better than the first, probably because it's got an underground resistance movement and I LOVE those things. There are also more sympathetic characters in it.

Great Nobbies (those teeth on 2-D are cool, aren't they?) laughed my butt off at the CSI:yellow/Incan mummy chick (funny elbow!), don't know the stories but liked those haunted drawings of Nathaniel and Simon (the messy hair/Harry aga was very funny too), and GREAT CAT (those rear paw pads are so perfect!)!

Hey

Alright! Bartimaeus Trilogy fanart! (And yes, the final book IS very good.) I really like your take on Lovelace, and the HP crossover seemed inevtiable, didn't it ;) Very cool as always!

I couldn't really get into the Bartimaeus trilogy. I read Amulet of Samarkand, but it felt like it was taking ages to read which is a sure-fire way of telling that I'm not really enjoying a book.

Ooh. I almost forgot about The Bartimaeus Trilogy. I read the first one in France. I never read the last one. I'll have to read 'em again too. I love your fanart. The one with Bartimaeus/Potter made me giggle.

Nobby looks wonderful.

After staring at your Nobby way too long, I've figured out who it looks like. It's Fagan from Oliver and Company!

Honestly, up until now I have *never* before seen any Nobby that would fit my mental image. Which, in fact, I don't have, if you understand me. I can't picture him clearly. But when I am browsing through tons of DW art (be it Kidby, of "just" fan's), I know exactly that Nobby doesn't look like that.
Yours...... is perfect.

This is probably the single best compliment these drawings could ever recieve. I have had the exact same experience with depictions of Nobby (Even Paul Kidby's just looks like a runty, dermatologically disadvantaged Rincewind) so to hear that mine is 'perfect' is... tremendous. Thank you.
